This has been discussed before, but it's essentially because boomers don't understand technology. To get a real, physical petition going you need to get a lot of real people together to do something, like the time some random nerds filled up some random studio's mailboxes with rice boxes to protest some unimportant show's cancellation. Real world protests are full of hundreds to thousands of people - even when they're bussed in, there's still a bunch of actual people physically present and willing to take their time to demand something or another in the streets. Online this isn't true at all: it takes negative amounts of time to tweet out some hashtag or post a black square on your instagram account, and boomer companies have no real way of distinguishing real people from bots and sock puppets, much less distinguish if the people speaking about the subject actually have any influence over that subject or are willing to put their money where their mouths are. (See that one crazy girl with the weird teeth who has very, very obvious botting in her instagram followers and 100% of her interaction comes from her mother making sock puppet accounts, but she keeps getting sponsored by stupid companies who think she's an influencer anyway) This creates the 'phantom voter effect', where you see things like twitter trending 'GIVE US THE SNYDER CUT!' as if millions of people actually care about it, only for the cut to bomb horribly once it's released because in reality barely anyone actually wants to rewatch a bad movie made twice as long and half as saturated as before half a decade after the original was released.

Companies have always run off of the idea that 'if one customer bothers to compliment us, that's worth 10 other happy customers, but if one customer is angry enough to complain, that's worth 100 other unhappy customers who couldn't be motivated to say anything', but their metrics haven't been updated to consider the difference in effort and confrontation between 'physically go into the store and complain to someone's face' and 'click on the downward thumb button and anonymously type angry words on a computer screen'. This is compounded by the fact that companies like Twitter attempt to head-off the kind of spam reddit promotes with its 'get this picture to the #1 result for 'loser' on google images!' posts and only end up with even more broken and exploitable algorithms for their 'trending' page. Going back to the Snyder Cut instance, there was an organized fake twitter trend that disseminated instructions openly on how to get something to trend on Twitter. The day after they did so, media outlets reported on the trend as if it had been an organic and legitimate trend. (They attempted to trash on it by claiming things like 'harassment' and 'death threats' but in reality them reporting on a faked trend at all gave it legitimacy)

Anyway, the short answer is that colleges and companies understand that Twitter allows for the communication of many people at once to express their opinions about things, but do not understand that the ease of communication causes that communication to be worthless, and the attempts by the companies to make it 'more legitimate' only make it worse when movements - especially political ones - crack their algorithm. Why have they not caught on yet after all this time? The most generous and probably most correct answer is that they're boomers who are gonna boomer. The other answers, situationally true, are that they're paid by influential groups to not learn, or the 'tech savvy' people they hire to teach them the world of tech intentionally lie to them, because those people themselves have an agenda that aligns with the people astroturfing social media.

You kind of giving Twitter too much credit when the shitlibs credited Mark Zuckerberg for donations to a lot of groups to rig votes as it would have been too much on the nose to give the real credit to George Soros.

As far as cancel culture and cancelations go, the real issue are banks and other faucets of corporate America destroying the means of people to make a living. The Twitter mob itself are powerless without the backing of corporate America, who thanks to cuckservatives, act like authorities higher than the government. Trump had a potential solution for it but it looks like he hired retards and blowhards who didn't prepare his administration for the events of the 2020 election.

Consider how all these ANTIFA commies and sex workers were overjoyed when Mastercard and other banks cut their support for Proud Boys member and nationalists like Martin Seller. Then, contrast that with how they raged when Mastercard cut all access to PornHub.

Dems will satiate themselves with imported voters (11 million will get amnesty with the BBB bill), and RINOs will flail around uselessly. They had time to act when Trump was in power but didn't. Big Tech is a problem.

Twitter did not rig the election. The people who counted the votes and kept adding fake votes rigged the election. Twitter just censored any and all discussion of the fact that the election was rigged, with the intent of memory-holing it. I'm not completely sure how successful that was, given that to this day all media has to be completely sanitized of any hint of the fact that they rigged the election.

Twitter itself isn't powerless to cancel people, it's just that much more powerful people like Chappelle and Trump can't be canceled by Twitter because it's just not influential enough - Twitter can only contribute, not be the main drive. Less powerful people, like Vic Mignogna - a person nobody on this board would probably know about if not for Twitter, and most people still don't know about because weeb recoil - get their lives utterly bodyslammed and ruined to the point of becoming suicidal due to its influence.

RINOs are part of the reason that there was an attempt to make the GOP woke or Democrat lite before Trump showed up. And then helped rig the 2020 election. There little difference between Romney and Obama in 2012 other than what color of the dick your average voter preferred to get anally raped by.
