Okay, fair point. California?

California is actually shite at housing the homeless. This is because homeowners everywhere vote to prevent new homes from being built in their area because they should be built "somewhere else". Consequently no housing gets built anywhere and the few small apartments they've built for the homeless cost $600,000 each.

Utah has done a much better job. Maybe Chris could become the next LDS prophet. That would justify him having multiple wives. (Mainstream LDS doctrine says you can't have multiple physical wives on Earth anymore, but you are still encouraged to have lots of wives in the Spirit World)

For example, look at the number of continuances on a previous Chris case (the Gamestop pepper spray assault):
10/15/201509:30 AMFINAL
07/23/201509:30 AMCONTINUED
06/11/201509:30 AMCONTINUEDPRELIMINARY
05/07/201510:30 AMCONTINUED
04/02/201509:30 AMCONTINUED
02/05/201509:30 AMCONTINUED
12/29/201409:00 AMCONTINUED
Yeah, but when the defendant is sitting in a jail cell, I would hope there wouldn't be a year of continuances.

Man, Chris case must be pretty shit if the judges are as slow as Chris "working on it".

Not really. Court cases outside of the simplest of situations usually take months. Complex cases where the defense has proper representation can take years. The right to a speedy trial is in the constitution, but if it's ever in the defense's interests to call for one, the prosecution just drops the charges. Thus, when a defendant is guilty, but the question is "guilty of what?", it turns into a long process of negotiation.

Laws were much simpler in the days of the founding fathers. Most crime was dealt with privately, either via personal negotiations, or street justice. Trials were swift because it was considered merciful, vs. letting people rot in jail without a trial. In modern times there are far more laws, with much greater complexity. More things are illegal and they are illegal in numerous ways, meaning that a lot more thought and negotiation goes into how the charges are brought. This is why trials are rare now, because it would be financially impossible for the state to hold trials for everyone accused of a crime.

Thus we now have a situation that has completely subverted the intent of the constitution, but there is no way out of it without a radical simplification of criminal justice. The reason this hasn't happened is because the current system, broken as it is, works fairly well, at least until recently. The flaws in our systems of punishment and rehabilitation are breaking it, but that's not necessarily a problem with how the system of prosecution works.

I thought as much
Not surprised they're stalling - when you come for the Messiah you better not miss.
chris is the anti christ in my opinion

Maybe Chris could be the next Joesph smith if you know about his story and how that ended.

So that's it then? This case will be countinued up to six times untill he's released with a suspended/commuted sentence.

My guess? The medical exam came up inconclusive and barb refused a rape kit, the state can't press rape charges, barb refused to press rape charges cause sexually depraved rapist or not Chris is still her son, and an easy grand a month so she wants him back on the tugboat and home before she croaks.

The evaluations couldn't make heads or tails of Chris aside him being an autistic mororn with delusions of grandeur and a messiah complex. So all they can do is let him stew in his own muck for a year.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and a happy new year.
