It's kinda crazy just watching him immediately grift. This confirms that he grifts because it's the way his brain thinks how love is shown. Penny probably doesn't even care for him emotionally. Kevin seems to hate his existence on the tranch. Literally the only thing Kevin talks about Penny doing is buying him things. Penny bought him stuff at every furry convention. Penny let him go to the dino city. Penny buys him toys.

He has also said that he buys things to make himself feel better. And if you notice, he buys many things all the time. So every single bad thought immediately makes him want to buy something to make himself feel better.
