Hate crime charges only complicate some things. The bar to prove them is (rightfully) very high, to prevent prosecutors from using just being somewhat racist as a slam dunk way to get some kind of conviction. As is he’s looking at 5 counts of first degree intentional homicide. They can for sure nail on reckless homicide and might downgrade the the offenses to first degree reckless homicide in exchange for a guilty plea on all five counts. The only reason he’ll still be breathing is WI doesn’t have the death penalty. In prison, he’s also likely to end up getting killed over what he’s done here. People who severely hurt children rarely have a good time in prison.
