Georgia 'LYNCHING' citizen fatally shoots unarmed black man ... Video Emerges, Grand Jury to Convene

The fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery -- a 25-year-old black man out for a jog when he was chased and killed -- was caught on video, prompting a call for a grand jury to review the case.

Arbery's death is being referred to as a modern-day lynching, as he was unarmed when he was gunned down in Brunswick, GA on February 23 by a white citizen named Travis McMichael ... who has not been arrested or charged. He also happens to be the son of a former district attorney investigator.

As you can see in the video, Arbery was jogging when he was stopped by McMichael and his father in a white pickup truck. McMichael was armed with a shotgun. Arbery appears to attempt to run around the truck before he and McMichael start grappling.

After at least 2 shots, the men continued struggling over the gun ... until Arbery stumbles away, shot in the mid-section, and then collapses to the ground. He was later pronounced dead.

McMichael has not been charged in the shooting ... reportedly because he and his father, who was in the back of the truck, claim they were trying to make a citizen's arrest. They claim Ahmaud fit the description of a suspect in a string of recent break-ins in the area.

After the emergence of the video, D.A. Pro Tempore Tom Durden has decided the case "should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn County for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr. Arbery.”

Ahmaud's family says the use of deadly force was unnecessary.

At first I also thought it was Bryan who leaked the vid but it turns out it was McMichael sr.

There was a lot of outrage after their charges were dropped and Greg McMichael thought it was a brilliant idea to release the footage so people
would be convinced it wasn't racially motivated and that it was self defense. It would ease tensions and clear up some rumors.

The opposite happened. He, his son and Bryan are in jail for the rest of their life and they will be remembered forever as those racist killers who hunted a jogger.

Simply following a suspected thief avoids the confrontation, but doesn't do anything to fix the problem. If anything, it could create an opening for charges of racially-motivated stalking or intimidation.

I fully accept the court's decision, but I'm still not seeing a better alternative when the cops can't or won't show up in time.

The thing is that simply following someone isn’t illegal. As for the thefts, the ones the McMicheals were worried about the most, those of firearms, are a good reason why you don’t keep anything you don’t want to risk being stolen in your vehicle. Truck guns and glove box pistols don’t have to be fancy, if you’re that worried about being car jacked and want a glove box piece despite that being ungodly rare in your area, just buy a HiPoint and accept that you’re risking getting it stolen and being out a hundred to two hundred dollars. Hell, lock your vehicles too - the break ins happened on unlocked vehicles IIRC. Simply doing that can convince petty thieves to just move on. It isn’t worth the effort.

Secondly, the reason this becomes murder is that without any legal justification, you cannot detain someone. They didn’t have it. If someone doesn’t want to talk to you, they don’t have to. The worst that can happen if you follow them but don’t confront them is you have a self defense case that’s pretty air tight, or a minor civil suit that you’ll probably be able to get dismissed or win since it’s far easier to prove your case in civil court both ways. Is any of this perfect? No. Is it better than what happened in this situation? Yes.

Arbery was a low level criminal with mental issues. But they could have stopped someone who wasn’t, and they could have reached the same conclusion he did - I am in fear for my life. I need to defend myself.

Also a friendly reminder that the cops can’t always be dealing with your low level bullshit. You eat up time they could be using to harass motorists or less likely, handling more serious crimes. Unless you catch someone in the act, have a damn good description, and they’re able to trace that property, you’re likely not going to see whatever got stolen again. That’s the price we pay to not get roving groups of men attempting to be the law on their own.
