This reminds of part of Misery by Stephen King - a book which unlike Ralph I opted to read while not incarcerated - where the main character has his foot chopped off by the villain. In shock complete shock at what happens, he has to try and rationalise it. As a result, he starts thinking about how it is beneficial that he has less toenails to clip.

That is a more extreme version of what Ralph is doing here, he is trying to cope with his fear of going to jail - a normal, natural fear - by convincing himself it will only be beneficial for him. Far from a relaxing experience, to better his health and recharge it will be a stressful and frustrating time - and he knows this from first hand experience.

I can only imagine that missing his son's first experiences, leaving Pantsu to give birth alone and the grief of his lost parents will only compound how bad the experience will be.

Wow, it's pretty insane to me that he actually managed to put on more weight. Maybe I'm imagining it, but most morbidly obese people I've seen tend to bottom out because they reach the point where eating enough to get bigger takes an obscene amount of calories, to the point where it's an effort to eat that amount of food. But you're 100% right in that his already massive, swangin' triple chin has gotten noticeably worse.

Yeah drying out and coming off of whatever pills he's been on will be the hardest part for him. I can't say for sure but I don't think he really got into the pills until after he came out.

Just for comparison on the last show Ralph did before he went away Jeff Holiday came on and just dunked on him for 30 minutes and Ralph pretty much did nothing but take it. I really cant imagine him reacting the same way and by the same token I really don't think his time inside will be as smooth this time.

Ralph's hair has turned grey at an exceptionally rapid rate. It usually takes over a decade for someone's hair to go from it's original colour to entirely grey - and Ralph is half way there in about three years. Obviously the diet can't be helping, but this will primarily be due to all the self-induced stress he has put himself under by acting like a reprobate and having to deal with the consequences.
