ProjectMoon Megathread - Lobotomy Corporation, Library of Ruina, Limbus Company, etc.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
It's kinda sad that they give you a bunch of shit at the end of the game (Unity, a fair few great cards and a shitload of Key Pages) and nothing really to use them on, you'd think they'd throw in a couple extra for-fun superbosses or something but I guess they expect the modding community to fix that problem, but then they split it into two with the Modding Tool update, whoops.
True, I was surprised to see how busted the pages were, but didn't have any use for them. Also, what happened with the update? Did they remove some modding features or something?

For starters, the Official Invitation Editor broke BaseMod. abcdcode (the OP of both BaseMods) stopped updating it, and now there’s like three to four knockoff BaseMods running around trying to be the new BaseMod. So people who invested heavily on BaseMod, like Macrosis (most famous for his Ensemble Rework) had a huge breakdown.

Then it turned out Invite Editor was extremely fucking limited in what it could do: you can only make Melee and Ranged Combat Pages, and the selection of effects were really small and bland. “[On Hit] Draw 1 Card” for example wasn’t available despite being an ingame effect already. We didn’t get custom .dll support until roughly two updates later so you were stuck with some really, really bland effects. This again led to said BMers reeeing about how Invite Editor is a rushed buggy mess (they ain’t wrong). Even in the current build you still can’t make On Plays like the Prescripts or Mass Attacks, but at least there’s more built in effects?

It doesn’t help that the CKC are pains in the ass to talk with. I remember seeing a set of screenshots floating around where NEET told Macrosis to fuck off for ever daring to suggest updates to the editor, only to turn around and ask if anyone was interested in the very same updates that Macrosis was pushing for.

Maybe not too related but BaseMod mods can be moved over to Workshop, it’s just a hassle. Raven Mod and Distorted Xiao Mod made it over.

To add to this, if I remember right abcdcode actually offered to provide all of BaseMod over to PM when they expressed interest in making an official modding tool but they rejected it. The official tool still has tons of issues (notably with the story editor, there's a lot of bugs in that part) and still isn't anywhere as close to good as BaseMod especially with stuff like Harmony patch. Some mods have found ways to move over of course but others are still needing old build to work with classic BaseMod, especially those that rely on Harmony patch.

Workshop BaseMods are a bit iffy and still aren't close to being quite to the level of old BaseMod+Harmony I think, you have BBE, and I think BM for Workshop that I think merged with BBE? In general the whole update was a fucking disaster that kinda killed off a bunch of in-dev mods and also made a number of big modders basically quit, I'd say the update in general is even worse than the 9/11 update in that regard.

And yeah CKC are absolute bastards to talk to, they're not just the TL team really, but they're also the front-end for announcements and they're really bad at handling that. As a recent example they're incredibly hesitant about confirming or denying Limbus being a possible gacha. They've said a lot of dumb shit as well that has gotten them in trouble because it'd get screencapped and posted everywhere. The CKC server is the only place you can actually talk with them and it's infested with brainless Redditors who really like to start retarded fights with modders over them usually not balancing for Passive Transfer (read: Transfer is near impossible to balance for unless you want only a single strat to work at all), hardtype mods in general or other stupid things Redditors start fights over. Also if you're Russian you're immediately banned on the spot for some reason.

I know i loved Lobotomy Corporation when it was still small. I was alright with Ruina, and the fact they're doing a mobile game next is.... shit but what's new.
Anyways, I wasn't expecting to see an actual thread for this series on here.

If anyone's worried PM will stop making PC games and concentrate entirely on the mobile market, you shouldn't worry much. During a Q&A they said the following:

"What's your next project plan?"
"If Lao Lu (Limbus Company) succeeds, I would like to split the development team in two. One team is making mobile games, and the other team is making packaged games. I think it would be good to regularly update mobile games after release, check the needs of fans, and give out big games to the package game team on a regular basis. In terms of genre, I would like to present a package game with a strong experimental element and a mobile game with an emphasis on popularity."

Which in turn means that Limbus is almost 100% a gacha game, so don't get your hopes up.

Ooh, I actually know about the Russian thing. If you’re familiar with the two bigshots of EN side, there’s a huge asshole tranny in their private servers (or just the Reddit server) who’s Russian constantly inciting hatred for the RU side. Thanks to that woman (you’re a woman, woman.), the majority of EN side treats any RU member as a transphobic homophobic genocidal maniac and it’s an instant ban. Doesn’t help that a majority of the RU side interacting with EN is using a translator, making them unable to properly defend themselves.

I’ve only seen them being “punished” once with a slap on the wrist, but it got bad enough that some of the well-known RU people left the major PM servers and vented about the general EN vs RU behaviour thanks to that fucker.

With regards to the confirmation thing: I’m pretty sure Watson confirmed it’s a gacha outright. People are just clinging on to the extremely old interview about how LC-B was a dungeon crawler (…as if a game can’t be a dungeon crawler AND a gacha at the same time?). The full copers quoting that interview seem to forget that even further back, PM wanted to move away from the Main Cast of LC with LOR only to end up defaulting to Angela’s Daddy Issues once again.

EDIT: I still think 9/11 was worse because it actually affected main gameplay. Sweet memories of one Slash -> 40 Bleed on KOG. Huge difference between that and losing some mods, which are often a post-game thing (which wasn’t even a thing back in 9/11 since we only entered SOTC with it).

On fandom-side, it showed NEET’s true colours to LOR-onlys for the first time, with the open death threats and his simps trying to claim he was just “translating” the death threats (why the fuck would you do that?) and Reddit server purging the evidence.

Also, not as many death threats compared to 9/11. KR was a lot less active on calling death upon PM this time - EN was actually the loudest whiners. KR just lowered their heads and moved on with figuring out how to port their mods over.

I still really don’t get the rage about it being a gacha from the EN side considering there’s a huge overlap with other gachas on their end: Arknights, Cookie Run, and Genshin Impact are the top three from what I recall, with Jona also dabbling in Granblue Fantasy.

Besides, the PC-onlys have LC-2 to look forward to. Hang in there, malders.

@Knifeguncat, the problem is quite simple: most people believe that a gacha game is not only inherently exploitative, but also a horrible way to tell a story.
To expand further, people argue that gacha brings about obsessive feelings from its essencial gambling aspect, which is pretty true, but I believe good (not exactly morally good, but of better quality) gacha can exist, as long as they have useful lifelines and give enough currency to make you reach them relatively easily, since obsessive people will always exist.
However, I agree more with the second statement, while the game's story has a very high chance of being good, since it's written by PM, but the game's events could end up being cringy at best and story-breaking at worst. Since they almost always end up being a mish-mash of fanservice and ridiculous ideas, which could easily conflict with the City's atmosphere and themes, but as long as PM keeps being the writers, I doubt it would go to shit rapidly, though it could happen with enough time.

I don't deny that PM will horribly fuck up a gacha game and/or a mobile game due to poor pacing or poor code (or both). and that gachas tend to be horrible mediums for telling stories.

I just find it ironic that the majority of the people complaining also happen to be invested pretty badly in other gachas. Arknights is the only real gacha out of the top three that I don't have an issue with: CR:K's shard system is absolute trash and Genshin is Genshin. The more well-known ENers have some pretty bad spending habits in the first place, so at least PM will make some cash off of them - all they need is a clown costume.

And yeah, as long as they don't pass off the writing to someone else, the lore will be more or less consistent. Unlike the hellscape of Wonderlab.

Agreed, it's a kind of buyer's remorse, they invested too much and can't back out so they blame the game in its entirety for their own obsessiveness and gambling addiction, even if they are right.
But, as long as the gacha isn't like F/GO's they've passed the half-way mark, and I'll probably get it since I like the Abnormalitys a lot. But, my biggest fear is that the story writers will move to the other team in the middle of the story and we get ridiculous and cringy shit.
Also, what the hell is wrong with WonderLab? It seems to be surrended by drama and other nonsense.

@Knifeguncat I can't reply to your post directly for some reason, so I suppose this will do.

Why am I not surprised it's some tranny that's causing shit? I know there's some tranny that's causing shit with certain mods.
At least 9/11 got near immediately reverted, so the damage was just a bunch of retarded balancing for one day (and iirc it was because PM didn't fucking do bug testing, which is a very common trend with them) whereas the modding issues has caused the scene to grind to a near halt for a while. I'm saying this because the 9/11 update had the most significant change (Passive Transfer) put through and just made more polished, even though I still think as a mechanic it's shit.

I know NEET did some extraordinarily stupid shit during the 9/11 update as well as the ending update iirc (since I believe in both cases /vst/ got the screencaps and lit the ensuing fire, since they think he's a faggot), I think them having a server where it's them in charge and not PM has resulted in the power getting into their heads, a common trend with Discord servers.

A lot of people I talk to hate gachas in general and are either of the "never played them" type or "I used to play one as f2p-only" type, so the sort of people who have the sense to keep their money in their wallet. It's also worrying that Director has been quoted saying he likes how FGO can do all sorts of branching stories and shit (it was in one of the Q&As, iirc), so expect the writing to be inspired by that shitshow most likely. Especially as most gachas tend to be plagued with having to powercreep, which in turn causes story escalation, there's high chances from my point of view they're going to butcher the setting.

It also seems like they believe they can run two games at once with a 20-man team, the same 20-man team that could barely keep up with updating LoR weekly, so I reckon they won't be able to balance the two at all unless they have both considerable success and the sense to undergo major expansion to actually achieve running two at once.

It's the creator of WL primarily, who is a nutjob who's very deeply ingrained with your usual Tumblr/Twitter bullshit. Mimi has thrown suicide threats a few times before and is extremely prone to overreacting, such as when a /vst/ user who takes porn requests from there and draws them made her go nuts by drawing a Servant of Wrath porn request (which resulted in a bunch of people drawing more WL porn to aggravate her further, or just drew stuff mocking the situation).

Also, what the hell is wrong with WonderLab? It seems to be surrended by drama and other nonsense.
1. Mimi is a HUGE SJW. Korean SJWs are the fucking worst. All the characters (in the EN translation) are "non-binary", due to the usage of they/them despite a much earlier tweet from her claiming it was just so that they could be any gender you want :)

2. Joe and Shasha. Christ. The fujoshis in the EN side get their asses worked up about it. In the post WL Q&A, Mimi answered... this

Q: What’s the relationship between Joe and Shasha?
A: A queer love based on the premise that they mutually understand Joe is aromantic. (They haven’t declared each other as lovers or anything. Daisy knows what’s up since they’re good friends with both.)
I haven’t given either any gender, so think whatever you want.

There's also Rose falling for Catt after the Hookah Caterpillar incident (older Q&A that Mimi deleted for whatever reason). Further fuels the #girlboss.

3. I'm just gonna throw quotes at the post WL Q&A at you.
Q: Do you have detailed managerial procedures and records written out for the WonderLab Abnormalities…?!
A: I’m not that experienced with Lobotomy Corporation as a game… 😅
[snip]

Q: Have you played LoR?
A: I think I reached around Episode 3 or smth before putting it down because of the difficulty and my lack of free time... I’d give it another shot when it gets a full release.
I don’t usually play that kind of game... I’m more of a fan of hunting action.

Q: If you’re given the opportunity to design more Abnormalities, what would be their conceptual bases this time?
A: I was told so many times about [the Abnormalities] being bootlegs of fairy tales, so I wanna draw whatever I want.

Q: It was said in the comics that Ella used to write before entering Lobotomy Corp; have they resumed writing by the epilogue?
A: Ella was born to be an iconoclast—writing system-overthrowing, rebellious pieces advocating for the demolition of the vulgarly capitalistic democratic system and dismantling plutocrats.
And they’re back at it now.
Full post-WL Q&A if you want to indulge in this shit / Archive

4. Ignoring the horrible lore inaccuracies, it failed pretty badly as a comic anyway. It started as a Monster of the Week, then took a sharp turn towards Slice of Life halfway and then U-Turned back into some kind of drama. I'd say the sharp turn was Road Home: before then, it was just a Monster of the Week focusing on a Clerk -> Agent, a 'kind-hearted' Agent, and a completely numb Captain. Afterwards it started shoving 'foreshadowing' of Catt's distortion everywhere, and quite poor attempts at convincing us that Catt was a hardcore ragmuncher.

Mimi should have paced the comic out better if she wanted a plot (or at the very least, show some sort of positive interactions with Taii and Catt if she wanted to sell that Catt wants BOTH Taii and Rose by her side), or outright stuck to the Monster of the Week format and not bother with any relationship drama.

5. This lol.
The whole affair was discussed in the /vst/ thread at the time and precipitated by one of the posters in it, so you can read through that for a fuller experience.

For more of an executive summary, some anon drew lewd pictures of Servant of Wrath and the Wonderlab artist didn't take it well.
View attachment 2752365
First came an exhortation to take that off the god damn Internet, as well as to cut your tinymini dick and die. As you might guess, that didn't exactly dissuade anyone.
View attachment 2752373
The artist quickly realised that it wouldn't help. As I recall it (and from what I can tell taking a look now), it culminated with this:

Re Merson Park: Mimi started to toss out names and claim that was the anon's name. 4Chan ran with it and started making reception-style cards/sprites for him,
tldr: SJWs produce SJWs content, attract more SJWs, whines about SJW stuff while proceeding to draw guro.

NEET is a faggot lol. Dude purged everything after the Death Threat incident, and now slaps on a Roland emote at the end of every sentence to make it seem like he's not being serious about anything... while calling random people assholes for even having the slightest criticism.

They've been on such a high horse ever since they finished ReTranslate LC. Look at their fucking endnote for the LOR Artbook:
1638113308170.png

Christ. The PM devs are all clearly elated to finish LOR and are clearly grateful for the playerbase's existence, meanwhile Watson and NEET go MEMEME and only mention the playerbase when it comes to claiming how only they had the guts to re-translate word salad LC.

Plus, the entire Limbus incident. Watson outright admits to stealing the tranny's translation for The Wings over in the CKC Discord. PM got put in a pretty bad light thanks to them, and it doesn't help that the EN side blames PM instead of, you know, the translation team which picked the translations? (KR and generally every other non-EN fandom agreed that CKC was at fault tho)

I believe PM wanted to have more control over what CKC does (and thus why their Twitter is private / discord is invite only now?) but like, it's pretty hard when you can see NEET's faggotry live over in the Wiki server.

By God, I hope not. F/GO's story is a mess because Nasu and his world are a mess, not only that but DW are incompetent idiots who can't run a gacha to save their lives, half of the community hates them and the other half are redditors!
Nobody who wants to run a successful mobile game should take F/GO as a positive example.
Since a big portion of their audience is Asian, you should expect nothing less than a success, they eat up gacha like you wouldn't believe. The only time a gacha fails is when it fails in all aspects.

I mean, FGO did one thing: it pumps out insane amounts of money!
I struggle to see how Limbus would succeed in an already saturated market of gachas, the characters are all new and not established, there's no immediate fanservice, and there likely won't be depictions of heavy violence, death or gore because that breaks Google Play's guidelines. I don't see where the initial hook to get the gacha whales would come from without them resorting to bending their own setting (having LC/main LoR characters turn up somehow, fanservice, etc).

They'll also be missing out on CN side's money due to being Playstore only, and CN fandom is quite sizable. As cruel as it is, I'm just hoping that it'll end up like the Sakura Wars gacha (by delightworks) where it just... died. For the exact same reasons you're listing (no old charas, no fanservice, no real hook).

It does have something established: the setting. The City is a pretty interesting world and it could attract people who don't know PM, if they keep the darker themes it would differentiate the game from other gachas. Also, they could just imply the violence and death, but I think they could get away with showing some gore, as long as it isn't at Love Town's level.
It does make me wonder though, the main grip of the game must be it's gameplay, and how are they going to do it is completely unknown to me despite the screenshots they gave us on the site.

They'll just use a VPN or an emulator, that's what a lot of english players do to play JP gachas and I don't think the Chinese are much different from them.
Here's a fun fact: Sakura Wars had the same gacha type as F/GO, with no lifeline too. It lived for 3-6 months I think.

My blood pressure rise every time I play lobotomy corp.
Lobotomy isn't hard except when you're on Day
49
: that's when shit hits the fan. I actually got frustrated with the game at first but once you memorize how to manage abnormalities and learn which ones to avoid picking, it becomes a cakewalk. Nothing There's easy to manage and it gives you one of the best EGO sets for your employees.

As for Library, only
Xiao and Binah's stupid realization
made me struggle a lot. Yujin's card is actually good and can carry you through most of SoTC if you have the right build, and Red Mist, Purple Tear and Binah are just plain broken (Red Mist being the worst offender because you can solo most shit with her; the only reason you'd ever bring the other librarians to her floor is to help her build emotion).

I’d like to disagree: the nerfs to her floor were pretty intense. IMO, Purple Tear is the most broken Key if there’s no Power Null, followed by Binah. Comps are more likely to just borrow Strongest for Prowess synergy on Yesod or buffing the shit out of PT on Binah then grabbing Birdxodia.

Meanwhile PT has four different decks, of which Slash has %damage increase, Pierce doubles debuffs being a godsend for Ensemble1 Greta, Blunt exists., and Guard for funni Lean Bloody Wings true damage/general clash bait. And she gains a min +2 on everything. Pair that with a guaranteed +8-11 minimum on Yesod and you’re gonna win every clash.

And Fairy is just outright broken. Binah being built to cancel clash and punish mobs with counter dice/more than 1 dice per card is just… Binah. Throw in the buffs from The Beast and you just win everything - powernull or not.

Even after the huge hammer Red Mist got, she's still way too good (I'm not kidding you, I literally solo'ed most shit with her, even if she's not as OP as pre nerf; I thought I'd need Binah as back up for the last fights, but in the end I didn't.) I tried using Yesod's floor for general receptions, but since my PC is way too weak, I couldn't use it due to the huge slowdowns I'd get (ironically it's the only floor my PC struggled to run; I didn't have any problems with the others, especially moving floors like Hod's).
