sorry for the double post. But I wonder if anyone posted this.
After rewatching some new paper mario critic and saw a guy getting angry because in some nintendo interview(I think it tanabe) they said paper mario is for children, it made me remember how much the old fan can be a bunch of big baby.
And then their this guy who make uneducated opinion and rage at potential people complaining (despite having removed the comment)

Thoughts? Personally don't like the live chat aspect.
Nothing’s going to top Bug Fables for me. Bug Fables is straight up 64/TTYD that cared to balance all of the badges and TTYD’s super guarding on top of providing a hard mode that rewards you with powerful badges that you don’t have to instead buy. In terms of action command RPGs, nothing is going to top that in my opinion.

This game would probably at least capture the spirit of old PM’s if disabling the useless live chat features are an option.

It looks interesting, but it felt like it's just going through the motions.

I've already seen it. Most of them are pretty uninteresting and some of them even look unfinished.
Yeah, it's kind of an red flag when most of the environment is a singular shade of grey, could always use another week or two painting your world before you advertise it.

Plus, I'm getting some DeviantArt vibes from some of them.

It's more of them trying to make a quick buck or being kind of delusional as opposed to getting their Paper Mario fix.

Most of those aren't exactly blockbusters.

I hope the next game builds on Origami King. I was pretty sceptical going in, but I ended up liking it immensely more than I was expecting to. I'd probably rank it above Super in terms of gameplay but not quite near PM64 and TTYD.

Sorry for necro-ing this thread, but Origami King's on sale for $42 on the eShop.

As someone that checked out on the series since SPM (and was disgusted by SS's direction), is it worth checking out?

It depends a lot on what disgusted you about SS's direction. While not a bad game, TOK still continues a lot of the modern trends like Toads or shallow, unrewarding combat.
Its at least gotten to the point where the good outweighs the bad and there's lots of entertaining and fun scenarios in that game.
If you're very spoiler free and can play it blindly I'd go for it.

Edit: Just realized I said "bad outweighs the good" when I meant it the other way around oops

Saw the first two hours or so of it.

It looks good, it tries to be funny. But the combat looks repetitive outside of the area bosses and most of the focus is on telling jokes as opposed to talking about the evil prince. I'm probably wrong about it, but don't expect it to win any awards for the plot.

I didn’t actually play it myself but I did watch a 100% playthrough of it.

The best improvement they made was fixing the bosses to not suck huge amounts of ass. One of SS’s and CS’s biggest problems was that the bosses were basically puzzles where you needed to find a specific item (called things in-game) and then wait to use it at the right turn in the fight to kill the boss next turn. If you didn’t bring the thing with you to the fight then you’re shit outta luck and have two choices: Choice one is that you beat the boss by spamming common attacks for about 10 turns and then having the game passive aggressively tell you that there’s an easier way (eat shit Kersti). Choice two was you reset your save and double back to get the thing again. Both of these choices made boss fights absolutely miserable stressful affairs where you refused to use things and just hoarded them all just in case.

Now for Origami King all of the puzzle bosses can be solved with basic attacks and special attacks that you always have, and failing to solve the puzzle just gives the boss a free turn to attack or heal instead of forcing you to reset your save. Because of this bosses are the most entertaining part of the game instead of the worst part for me which is nice.

The battles are a love it or hate it sort of deal. I personally enjoyed solving the puzzles alongside the video and towards the end it hadn’t felt like it overstayed it’s welcome, but obviously not everyone agrees with this and I’ve seen others say it’s one of the worst parts of the game. It’s satisfying to end every fight in one turn if you can stay on top of the puzzles and action commands. I’d recommend watching some footage yourself and try solving it with the video to get an idea of your opinion on it.

Coins also function as pseudo-exp now since you need lots of them to buy stat boosting accessories so there’s actually a reason for getting shittons of coins. This one change that I was hoping they’d do since SS so big thumbs up here. There’s also a lot of other collectible things to get like toads and filling up holes which helps in fights and gives you extra loot, respectively.

Visuals and soundtrack are still amazing as usual so no complaints here.

Character design is still very basic and dumbed down. The game disingenuously advertises partners coming back but they’re shallow both in gameplay and personality. Since you can end every fight except bosses in one turn they’re useless for fights and only sometimes do an extra attack. They’re not even with Mario for the whole game so there’s not much chance for engaging character development or a whole lot of moments with Mario in general. They’re a one area and done set of partners.

Tl;dr PM:OK is just okay. Like 6/10 okay for me. $42 is a good deal if you think you won’t hate the basic combat and you like exploring and collecting things for its own sake. There’s something nice about watching the battle arena bleachers fill up with all of the toads you save.

It kinda okey. Compared to the classic paper mario, story wise and character it pretty much lackluster(They all look the same, few ''enemies specie' NPC, story and characterization is basic compared to the first 3 but better than SS). But it do step to the right direction

I just ordered it since its on sale. PopSpectrum did a great review of it with good points. (Its Robin from Anime America)
She ranked the games as follows from best to worst
1. TTYD
2. TOK
3. PM
4. SPM
5. CS
6. SS
OK and CS are too high in my opinion. For me OK ranks below Super and CS ranks below SS.

Super actually has fun platforming gameplay and unique characters while OK has a very hit or miss battle system and mostly one-note samefaced toads by comparison.

CS inherits every bad part of SS on top of also making the battle system more aids by forcing you do all of this extra tedious shit just to do basic attacks. At least with SS I could organize the attacks so that I only have to thumb through 3-5 pages instead of 50 basic attack cards like you have to in CS. CS could’ve easily fixed this with just a couple QoL tweaks too.

I at least appreciate that Origami King is taking a few steps in the right direction. This seems to just be how Paper Mario games have gone since Super Paper Mario. Sticker Star was awful. Color Splash was a bit better, and then Origami King was kind of decent. Maybe in two or three releases, the series will just be outright good again.

No dude CS is at the bottom 5, TOK is at number 2 which is on top
