Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Out of curiosity, where are you getting the sub numbers? I'm sure Socialblade gets them straight off the Youtube API, so it might be a more reliable way to tell than just looking at his youtube page.
Socialblade is what I'm using to track everything, I only use his channel to get the view count for his uploads.

This is actually a pretty common pattern I've seen when mass exoduses happen on a channel, the remarkable thing about Jim's is how long it was sustained. Sadly I can't go right back to the beginning, but when Mundane Matt had his fall from grace what you saw was an initial huge drop of subs, then a consistent drop of 1,000 a week for quite some time. Eventually those losses became more sporadic and looking at his channel today you can see that while he experiences no growth he can go several months without any loss, and retains over a hundred-thousand subscribers even though he deleted all his videos.

I'd always expected this to happen with Jim --as I say I'm just surprised it took so long-- because you will always reach a point where everyone willing to actively unsubscribe has gone. After that you're left with people who either ignore Jim's videos or are waiting for the one video that finally pushes them over the edge, so the bleed slows.

We can get a rough idea from the fact he only gets about 25% of his sub count viewing his flagship show (and only thing he consistently uploads) how many of his remaining subs still actually consume his content, but I think a lot of the other 75% will linger on either because they can't be bothered unsubbing or because the accounts are abandoned.

You know, YouTube should have a thing where you can hit a button, and if you haven't watched any of the last 5 uploads from a channel or they haven't released any videos in X time it pulls up a list of them for a mass unsub. I'd also like a way to bulk unsub just in general. Clean up my feeds and my sub list easier. I'd love to see what Jim's channel would look like after a thing, or if YouTube just set all accounts that haven't been active in X amount of time to inactive and stopped counting them towards the count. Subs, at this point in time, are meaningless due to how many dead subs there are, or just how annoying it is to clean out your subscriptions list.

Sub Report for the week starting November 22nd, 2021:

Subs left til -100k
: 23k

Another week of no sub losses. I hate to say it boys, but I fear the bleed may have concluded. I don't expect Jim to start gaining subs any time soon, but unless he has another Cawthon-tier chimpout I suspect he's going to coast around 850k for a while.

Still, losing almost 10% of your subscriber base in under a year remains a pretty amazing accomplishment in and of itself.
I think people will be leaving after his yearly top whatever of videogames. It's simply temporary slow down

I'd be in favour of this were it not for YouTube's track record of forcing shit like this on users rather than making it opt-in, and I don't want auto-unsubbed from channels like Ahoy or Lemmino who I love but who only upload when the stars align.

Possibly, but it's worth remembering December 2020 was the last time Jim actually saw positive sub growth, suggesting his Top/Bottom 10 are the one thing that still draws people to his channel (presumably because it's the only normie-tier content he produces).

Having said that, as we've previously speculated Jim will struggle to fill a Top 10 this year because he's such a miserable cunt, so you could yet be proven right if he tries to get clever and makes his Top 10 into a list of times AAA companies did something shitty.

Has he given any games genuine praise? With him outsourcing his video game footage to LKD instead of using his own footage, is he going to have LKD make his top 10 list for him?

Off the top of my head he spoke positively of Resident Evil Village, but it felt like it was through gritted teeth, and there was one other game I remember...Oh. Oh no.

I just did a count while trying to find the other game he seemed to like (no idea what it was btw) and realised he's only done 14 Jimpressions this year, by my count. He doesn't even have enough to do a Top/Bottom 10 unless he puts the same games into both lists. Jesus Christ. With this in mind I don't see how he has any option other than to outsource or just not do the Top 10 at all.

That's my new prediction in fact, since it's the worst possible choice he could make and that's what Jim is good at: His Top 10 video is just going to be him explaining why he's not doing a Top 10 video.

I'm pretty sure he was only favorable towards Resident Evil Village because it's a sin among his crowd to not worship at Lady Massive Vampire Mommy Milkers' size 14 feet.

I remember in the past, he used to name drop some games he enjoys like The Binding of Isaac, Splatoon, Ben and Ed, and I think he did a squirty play of Immortal Redneck and seemed to have a good time with it. Found the video

There was some positivity in the past.

If he does a top 10 video the only way it will have passion to it if it was on why video games and gamers are bad.

Since it is the fifth time Ahoy has been mentioned in this thread since it happened, and because Ahoy's release schedule is few and far between, I will point out that there is a new video for anyone who doesn't already know. The topic was .mod Trackers and gets into some stuff about the Demo Scene. It was great.

He definitely used to do positive videos --I personally picked up Children of Morta and Dead Cells based on his glowing recommendations-- but as far as 2021 goes RE Village is all I can remember, and even that one only stood out because it felt like he was being positive at gunpoint; either due to comments about him being so negative starting to get to him or, as @Corn Flakes suggested, because 'muh Giant Lady porn memes'.

I'm not sure what I'm meant to take away from this beyond that Jim wants the big gaming news outlets to shoot themselves in the foot because of muh ethics and shitty corporate culture. It is funny he actually told people to unsub because they're sick of him beating the dead horse though.

That's kind of what I'm struggling with too. He clearly wants to paint himself as the visionary and martyr (the part where he goes on about having to "fight" for writing his micro-transaction articles is hilarious imo) while also not really coming with a solution, it's just self-aggrendizement as we're pretty well used to by now from Jim. It's the same old bullshit, but there's some really autistic sperging in there that made it at least somewhat entertaining to me.

For the past four months he has been bleeding subs at a rate of ~7k a month, yet this month it's only down to 2k? Sure, he did a couple topical videos that his desired breadtuber audience would enjoy that finally cracked 200k views, but still.

I would point out that the graph you posted shows he had a sub increase/"decrease decrease" around the end/start of the two last years (Increased traffic for gaming channels due to Christmas releases ?), so it may not be a particularly new effect and just a seasonal one.

The sycophantic fart-huffing in the comments makes me want to eat a bullet:

"Oh I can understand the small-brained plebeian masses not wanting to hear about horrible bad things and just wanting to consume media uncritically, but thank God we enlightened few are still here speaking truth to power."

No you self-righteous faggot, when I read a game review I just want to know if the game is good and if it works. That's it. If I want to know about Bobby Kotick fisting an intern to death then I'll read one of the DOZENS of news articles about the subject that continue to get published (you know, the ones Jim constantly screenshots for his videos because he's too lazy to do any investigative work himself).

This complete inability to not inject your pet crusade into every single facet of your life is why everyone fucking hates you.
