We can't keep calling him a "narcissist" and then list off other mythological figures he can portray...I mean, that word comes from somewhere.

In the end, though, he keeps dressing up as all these things that he is not, the same way he keeps talking about things he doesn't understand. It's not really about who Olly can or cannot portray -- it's the fact that he is going to try to portray every goddamn thing on Earth because there is no core there, only an inward facing mirror and a desire for adulation.

You can't compare a mirror to anything, as it is nothing in itself...that's the same with Olly. He isn't anything himself, he's just what he chooses to reflect and his need for attention. He chose acting as a "profession" for a reason.

I'm trying to tease this out, and I assume that the strongest way he can present this is that Britannia is a deliberately ahistorical representation here because people's idea of their nation's past is often itself an ahistorical construct created to build an essential idea of what that nation should be, ie, during WW2 how the Japanese government instilled in its populace an idea of the 'Bushido spirit', drawing on mostly false ideas of Samurai honour and adherence to a historical code to try and institute a sense of extreme loyalty and self sacrifice among regular Japanese people alongside a belief that Japan was a nation of special providence which was destined to rule all of Asia.

I can kind of see where this may go, but its still very sloppy. In the case of Britannia it was pretty much always understood by anybody who used it that it was a fictional personification of Britain, essentially just like Uncle Sam in America, and wasn't really taken much further than that. If he's trying to make a commentary on the inherent absurdity of nationalism I think it would have been a much better idea to make it completely clear cut that it is Britannia, because she's got a very recognizable 'look' that's been set in stone for almost 250 years now and the combination of the armor, trident and shield emblazoned with the Union Jack tends to bring across a lot of the absurd pomp that you see with over the top nationalism that's ripe for critique. She even gets portrayed with a pet lion in many depictions, the image itself is almost a self parody. Instead its a much more visually dull unspecified image of a vaguely Greco-Roman goddess type.

But he's still staying tightlipped about it also being Athena and hiding behind calling it ahistorical? I really don't see where this can go that says anything insightful and the conflation of mostly non-related elements just seems like it will undermine his points if it really is somehow meant to be simultaneously a commentary on Britannia and Athena and their representations, by that logic I could argue that the below image is a mind blowing satire on our perceptions of the past:

I'm not joking about that btw, Laura recently released a biography entitled "Uncomfortable Labels: My Life as a Gay Autistic Trans Woman". ANYWAY they're planning to have a protest outside the BBC on the 8th of January:

Meanwhile there was already a protest outside the BBC a few weeks ago, coordinated by a group called "What The Trans?" but ultimately organised by one Natacha Kennedy:

Natacha Kennedy (aka Mark Hellen) has priors, having been exposed making a Facebook group to compile a list of gender critical or gender ambivalent academics whilst a lecturer at Goldsmith's University (it even got in The Times!)

Meanwhile there's also the organisers of London Trans Pride, which is again it's own thing. Meet Lucia Blayke.

Lucia also runs Harpies, which is the only inclusive strip club centering queer and trans bodies (read: some strip joints let 'em put on a tranny night).

Anyway my point is that right now there are tonnes of competing trans rights organisations - I'm just looking at ones that have been active in Central London in the last year or so, and there are loads of trans people competing to get to the position of "trans spokesperson". Transgender Action Block has barely cut its teeth so it's unsurprising it isn't getting traction (and separately it's unsurprising that Ollie isn't getting traction as the most famous trans person on TERF Island, because he isn't).

I would LOVE to hear more about this dinner you speak of! And just, like how some of these guys are face to face, IRL. What were some examples of the kinds of stuff they like to talk about with strangers and/or at formal or semi-formal get-togethers? (I guess very fortunately for me I've only known a few trans people and they have been long term passing, not political and basically sane.)
