This is how we know he didn't plan this retcon, because he didn't think about the fact that his old credit debt is gone anyway, so there's no reason to believe that that's what he was talking about. He absolutely meant to say that the bank statements include fraudulent charges that he went to the police about, thinking that would add strength to his narrative, and when he realized it didn't, he panicked like usual.

What I'm curious about is WHY he thought he needed to try discrediting the leaked information this way. Like I've said before, it would've sufficed to laugh the leaks off as "made-up nonsense", like he does with so many other things, and just memory-hole that it ever came up. The paypigs would've gone with it, and he knows that. So why go down this dangerous road of trying to play semantics and stay one step ahead of detractors?

My theories: Phil either has too much pride wrapped up in this particular battle, as well as blinded by his inability to recognize that he is horribly outgunned, or he's not convinced that the leaks are going to stop, and is therefore attempting to lay out more groundwork than normal, to deal with what he expects to be future embarrassment.

Of course, that still doesn't answer the question of why he's worried about the paypigs believing that he has been scamming them for years. They know everything, and yet there they are, tipping him. He could fess up to all of it and it would change nothing. But he won't do it. Why?

I mean, there is also his ego, which would take one hell of a hit if he admitted that the entire detractor community has been correct about him for years, but he's Phil, he has already spent years embarrassing himself with statements that make him look WORSE if you believe them, including this "Someone stole all this money from me and I had no idea" bullshit. He very much thinks he could frame such an admission without it being tantamount to saying "Yes, I really am a scamming piece of shit". It wouldn't be the first time has has over-estimated his ability to bullshit, after all.

Shit, I'll bet he thinks he could pull it off even AFTER claiming the leaks contain accurate information but the charges themselves are a case of fraud. He obviously doesn't think about his past statements, mostly because he only cares enough to try staying one step ahead of the evidence detractors dig up. I think we can chalk that up to his laziness and general penchant for getting indignant at any moment wherein he is forced to exert himself for ANY reason, let alone to deal with the people constantly trying to evoke consequences for his bad behavior. That's why he hates us the most, after all. He's that kid on the playground who is always up to something, and we're the hall monitor he blames for him getting in trouble all the time, never his own stupid immoral self.

What I love about this is that WE, those who laugh at his salty footage, are the reason he does this, the reason he goes out of his way to set this kind of pattern up over and over again, like a bowler setting up his own pins to known them down again and again, forever. Eight years of TIHYDP has absolutely ruined his streams, permanently, and that's one hell of a W right there.

Phil, of course, does not recognize this as an L for him because his ego is more important to him than even his greed, but it obviously is still a giant L, when you look at the state of his tips. He would be doing WAY better if he faced games like Metroid Dread like a fucking man instead of the biggest pussy on YouTube. He may prefer this Hell, but it still burns. It still makes him drink.

I've observed before that his brain has a lot of trouble with 100% ignoring what it knows is true whenever he asks it to come up with a convincing lie, well this probably gets compounded the bigger the L he can take if he fucks up. It's the only thing I can think of as to why he didn't goat laugh them off, that it was physically impossible for him to do so. His brain immediately pictured everything horrible that could possibly happen and he panicked as a result, not at all thinking about how stupid his paypigs are. The awareness was just too powerful for him to overcome.

I always laugh when he talks about not being able to afford shit, because even if you believe the lie, it makes him look like a fucking failure. What kind of person with a 13 year long career as a YouTuber is struggling to get games? No matter how you spin it, there's no getting around how that says "This person is a fuck up".

If Phil was slightly smarter, he would prefer everyone thinking he's a mobile gaming addict, because holy shit does it get worse if you think he's just so bad with money that he doesn't need one in order to be so deep into a career and have none sitting around. I'm not kidding, he's getting off light with it being known that his tips go right to a company called Scopely. The "making little money" angle has long since stopped being believable, so the only alternative is him being stupid with it. No wonder he still clings so hard to the poverty narrative, he knows what it says about him otherwise.

Counter point: the basis of this study hinges on the fact that pigs are generally smart enough to connect their actions with the results/consequences of those actions, even in less immediately obvious examples (ie gaming), something Phil has never been capable of.

I think Phil started the podcast and the whole “I’m a voice in gaming news with takes people are interested in” thing because of the echo chamber he created on Twitter. Him getting rid of trolls by banning them and barring interaction with his tweets has just created this image in his head that people agree with him and want to hear what he has to say.

With Phil, it all comes down to ego. Despite his insistence that he's not a big-time streamer anymore, his clout-chasing and his attempts at getting keys and previews without shelling out his gacha money for them (hence the credits for Xbox) say otherwise. This is just another attempt by him to not only control the narrative, but also a lazy effort to get noticed again. Unfortunately, talking about what you did on your off day is not going to get EA to give you keys, Phil.

His grasp on reality has always been iffy at best, but as you said his self isolation over the years and the removal of any just slightly dissenting voices has caused that slight grasp to slip even further.

This is a path that can only lead to the production of even more hilarious entertainment for us, the only question is when/if him isolating himself in his comfy little echo chamber will lead him to say something he can't walk back that will piss off the wrong people.

But no matter what his slip into complete insanity is going to be an interesting thing to watch, but there is always the chance he will stroke out before he fucks up to badly and will forever be remembered as ''The Guy''.

If you commented on a Livestream of Phil's, that no longer exists, unless a fellow detractor restreamed it or otherwise archived it. He privates/deletes the stream and uploads cut-up footage from the raw stream (usually in hour-long chunks). This is so he can edit out some of his more TOXIC rants and save face a little bit to his audience. You'd be surprised at how much gets cut sometimes.
