Man I stopped posting on facepunch around 2011 or 2012, and pretty much all of the second wave gold members did as well. It was fun playing minecraft and TTT with the boys but i think most of us just outgrew the forums, and that whole golden/ivory tower thing was kind of the wrong move at the time in retrospect. it made the non-gold members feel like they needed to create a treehouse club in response which definitely led to the abomination that is knockout. i don't blame garry for it because it was the same approach he had always used but the culture of the internet was starting to change into the political hugbox it is now. I only recognize a few names being thrown around which means that they really did clear out.

Facepunch was always an upper-middle-class euro-centric left-leaning place, even going back to like 2005. It was a very strange and alien place to a child growing up in a pre-social-media american midwest, all of these affluent euros had a totally different world view that was more inviting than smothering bush era conservatism. Back then they were smug about being europeans and having liberal values and a superior standard of living. Nobody promoted socialism, trannies were legitimate unicorns, you legitimately had nazi larpers kicking around, pedos were criticized, and everyone just let retards act retarded for entertainment. nobody pretended to get indignant at another's presence.

Story of the pic was that a user was asking about his cat and took this extreme closeup pic of the cat, and for whatever reason it was spammed heavily so it became a "banned" image. Anyone who posted this pic was perma banned with ban reason "That Cat"
There were often times people got banned for weird reasons which reminded me of some of the exceptional individuals that used to reside on FP.

Chickens!: Posted underage nudes of himself to people in private messages.
DatWut?: Creepy person and showed dick pics to random people.
Sobotnik: With his massive pregnancy fetish and love for fedoras. (There used to be a picture spammed about his appearance since he posted a pic of him wearing a fedora and sunglasses that everyone mocked.)
Iago: Posted about his extremely freakish looking nipple, asking for help since his nipple was bleeding. (The picture is truly horrifying)
HelixSnake: Had a massive hard-on for dinosaurs and I remember when he got banned, mods posted links to toy dinosaurs, mocking him. Wish I still had that picture saved but he was crying in the Refugee camp, trying to explain his fetish to everyone.
fpsthePWNER: Paid Garry 1k for gold membership status after he got tricked thinking it wasn't really 1k USD, so his mom got Garry's paypal banned because he didn't refund. (I could be wrong, it's been a decade at this point trying to remember this stuff)
