No, under feudalism, even nobles had responsibilities.

There was that one instance when the Hungarian noblemen charged Napoleon's cannon battery in plate mail on horseback.

Since charging Obi-wan positioned artillery up a hill is... unlikely to succeed, not one lived. Peasants thought it foolish arrogance, town citizenry the ultimate noble sacrifice.

Their duty was to protect the land against foreigners, or die trying, and they did just that.

In every society since the Bronze age, be it mesoamerican, European, African, west Asian or East Asian there has been an understanding the Merchant Class while useful, cannot be allowed too close to the levers of power. Because while money is a source of power, it is not a source of honor or civic virtue. And someone well suited to acquiring money may very well not be well suited to ruling the lives of men.

Part of the disaster of the Industrial Revolution I think is that it led to the triumph of the Merchant Class over both the Peasents and the Aristocracy. A story played out across the world. Someone who views their nation in purely transactional terms, a Merchant, will assume that the nation like any asset can be sold. This is the flaw at the heart of modern capitalism.

It is up to the people wrapped in this bargain to contest the sale. The powers that be think a nation can be sold with money. I believe with every fiber of my being the only currency that can pay for a nation is blood.

and the Merchant's seizure of total control was complete when silver (the common man's money) and gold (the currency of nations) were cast aside.

I like precious metals as much as the next autist and I've inherited/acquired some very quietly- enough that I'm a little hmmm about where to hide my stash to evade a knock on the door at 3am.

I found it interesting that silver hasn't inflated over the same time period that fucking SALAD (not an index, semi-tasty leaves) did, so that seems hinky and I'm quietly buying more- cash.

So, how do we disguise any significant wad of metal from modern detection?

Melt down, cast into objet d'art. I like elephants, and God likes elephants.

Sorry but this sounds like bollocks, first of all what is even the merchant class? Are blacksmiths considered merchants or it's only people whose job is to maintain the supply chain the country's economy is entirely reliant on? Why would a merchant who's family lives in a country and has stores and connections in that country work against it?
Second why is the assumption the aristocracy or the peasantry has better morals? The former time and time against fucked their country due to arrogance, stupidity and inbreeding, and has family members scattered just about everywhere to just fuck off when shit goes south, the latter could have their lord changed suddenly and they wouldn't give a fuck since nothing changed.

If you support a monarchist idea you should have zero problem with global overlords that inherit their position.

Merchant =/= a member of the Mercantile class in a classical sense.

People like blacksmiths and carpenters were considered artisans, yes they were technically merchants in the sense that they sold goods, but in actuality the merchant class was represented by the business moguls of antiquity.

If you're interested in understanding this nuance I'd suggest reading up on Marcus Licinius Crassus, he's the archetypal figure of the Mercantile class of antiquity; both in his success as a business man, and his untimely demise after his foray into politics.

It's not really a class if it's limited to a tiny amount of the big dogs in a whole industry. In the end the reason why most civilizations tried to fuck over rich commoners is that the aristocracy dislikes competition and tries to paint it as corrupt power hungry savages, unlike their divinely mandated "totally not power hungry" betters.
I can't really see how one can argue against social mobility.

I don't like hereditary rule. I think we should go by Conan the Barbarian rules of statecraft.

And legalize steroids.

I mean we aren't that far removed from Conan rules. Look at what the FBI did to Project Veritas. Laws, traditions and norms are guidelines. Naked force will always rule over them. In the face of someone willing to wield it they are only as meaningful so far as they can justify someone else to use violence to defend them.

Why is it, in a time where no one has any money and shops are running out of stuff, and the stuff that is available is expensive, WHY are so many people quitting their jobs and bragging about it on social media?

Actually, ARE people quitting their jobs? No one I know irl has. I mainly see the jobless talking about it on reddit.

Why are bots quitting their imaginary jobs in these trying times? Don't they know they won't get unemployment unless they get fired? Will reddit bots be doing smash-and-grab for Christmas?

Who benefits from having a destitute population?
