Good points. I guess I just assumed like a lot of people that vtubers hide their face for a reason.

I do find it funny that they hired a professional cosplayer and former idol who is a little obsessed with her appearance and never allow her to show more than her hands.

And if I recall correctly, Ame used to be a twitch boobie streamer before vtubing. She ironically has more simps now.

I do think that they all could cosplay their characters. Not that cover would let them.

Penis have nothing to do with it. Coco (and again with Kson recently) collab with an actual ex-yakuza before with zero detrimental. It's only because it's Nux, and her fan considered him haram when he try to clout-chasing and profit from Coco's graduation with him regurgitate 4chan rrat and then do the no-no "face dox" of Kson and Coco. Suddenly see him announce collab spook her fans. Yet I wouldn't call it backlash when it's just some fan saying that they won't watch the collab because they don't like the partner, but she's the type that read what her fans tweet a lot so she definitely see that some of her dedicated fan hate it.
Personally I don't like the collab. Just not a fan of those boob and vagina joke in the first place, even less when it come from a cringe tryhard screamtuber. And he even try to show her that clipper who focus on her ass or nipple, which she outright said she hate this kind of clips. Kson seems to have fun at the end of the day though, so whatever.
And I don't think she take a break solely because of the nux thing. She was a bit down since last week, so it's probably a mixture of lots of stuff.

Check the Nux tweet. The flame is there and some tard use the place to discuss the recent Vshojo-Nux spat thing while @ her. Her actual fanbase went through enough flame to know the best course of action is to stfu in public. Most drama is self-contained in the fancord, and it isn't even that big. Those who doesn't like it just say their 2-cents and move on.

It's not so much a matter of "hide face because ugly." Some holos are homely. Some are by all accounts beauties. A lot of them are normal-looking. But in 3DPD streamer-land, being normal looking won't get you anywhere if you don't have a Y chromosome. The avatars limit the deviation from the norm when it comes to appearance, and you're not stuck with what genetics dealt you, which allows for the homely and normal to compete on an even playing field, based on their talent.

I don't think sachiowo was part of the hot tub meta. She did gaming, experimental streams like prototypes for the Watson Concoction, and some vtubing afaik. She pulled the sort of numbers that the PC girls do these days.

There's also the fact that a person can look perfectly normal, attractive even, irl, but look bad on camera. Looking good on camera often requires good lighting and makeup, and vtubing eliminates that hassle. You can roll out of bed with messy hair and old pajamas and do a stream, and no one will know.
