Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? I think working for the government is inherently leftist because it's essentially the thing they love doing the most: telling other people that they know better and that there's no way to do it but their way.

It isn't just that government employees trend left. Republicans show zero interest in ensuring state agencies are run in a way that politically benefits them. A good example is all this crit theory crap. The reason it exists is the left, years ago, gamed the rules of state accreditation agencies to enable pseudo-disciplines that reject essential concepts of academic rigor like objective facts, morally neutral logic, and material evidence to start offering degrees and gaining power. There is no reason Republicans couldn't have stopped this. But when you, in a deep red state, bring up the topic to them of how organizations that they legally control are undermining them at every turn, they look at you like you are asking a cockateel to mow the lawn.

Because it doesn't have anything to do with "improving the business climate and bringing jobs to the state." It's the "Sir, this is a Wendy's," response, because Republican officials legit do not understand why you think the party that controls the government should have anything to do with what is taught in schools owned by the government.

There are usually two types of government jobs, which are by appointment or by regular hiring. Most of those folks would be found in appointed positions in my view though the increase in federal government bureaucracy has not been clamped down by the GOP since @Calvin Coolidge was president.

I'd do the same if my line of work wasn't concentrated so intensely within the greater NYC area. Hoping I can jump ship to my desired field of choice and work remotely if I'm still stuck in freelance contract hell, but that's a lot of 'ifs' I'm not ready to entertain while I struggle to adjust my current living costs to Brandon's rising inflation fuckery. It would also probably mean I'd have to break off my relationship too, but the cost of living hasn't gotten to that point just yet, and I pray that it never does. I don't even live in NYC proper, but the culture and the cost of living there has bled into most of western New Jersey at this point.

The amazing part about SH was that it almost worked. I remember watching my mom (a rather neoliberal but ultimately centrist lady whose politics are defined by common sense) have her eyes glued to CNN for the entire weekend that followed after the incident saying very loudly that we need to abolish the Second Amendment entirely, a view I think she dropped some months after the story passed but I digress. I remember kids at school saying the same thing and teachers bringing it up at the start of classes. Hell, we had an assembly and everything cause Sandy Hook was just a state over, and if you remotely said anything to the defense of 2A rights, you'd be shouted down by a gaggle of shrill lefty teenage girls.

I didn't really have strong opinions about gun ownership at the time, but holy fuck was my brother incensed by the narrative the MSM was spewing for three goddamn months. They certainly didn't persuade any firearms holders to their cause, let alone teenagers who were saving up to buy their first rifle.
