Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

I keep expecting it to plateau as any big channel must have a large number of dead or bot accounts, DSP is still on 195k despite hardly ever breaking into 4 figures for a video. But the funniest thing about this is people are actively ticking the subscribe box as they're so sick of his ugly face clogging up their feeds. I mean, imagine if you have friends or family around and they see that ghoulish visage on your screen.
I wonder if the algorithm plays a factor as well. DSPGaming is a let's play channel, so that front page, if your subscribed, would place bigger let's play channels than Phil. Jim is still one of the biggest (figuratively, literally, and unfortunately) of the "Vidya Complainers" in terms of subs and still brings in some views. So on top of YongYea and UEG, you're likely to see Jim's drug-fueled cosplay and be reminded you're subbed to him. Just the theory I haven't seen anyone bring up yet.

Ironically, Jim has complained on multiple occasions about the algorithm 'burying' his content; he even had one schizo theory that YouTube were conspiring with the sex pests at Ubisoft because his video about serial rapists didn't get many views on his video game channel.

Jim really isn't the force that he used to be. His JQs now get about a quarter the average views they used to, and compared to someone like Yong Yea he is utterly eclipsed in views. Compared to lesser-know gaming news channels, like Spawn Wave, he still falls short, and even compared to equally niche channels like MVG Jim gets significantly less views. People simply don't want his content any more, and I don't blame them.

If the algorithm does play a part, it's likely punishing Jim for his extremely sporadic uploading habits. I think it works different for channels like Ahoy who rarely post but when they do drop hour-long, ad-friendly videos, but when Jim is only farting out one 14 minute video a week of deliberately unmonetisable guff the algorithm is probably gonna want nothing to do with it.

I definitely don't buy the idea that Youtube is deliberately burying him. I was still seeing his ugly mug in my recommended videos for months after I unsubbed, despite me consistently marking every single one as "piss off, I don't care" whenever I saw them.

With these posts in mind, I have a new theory:

Jimbo is getting buried in Search Engine results because (contrary to his claims of Transphobia despite he himself not being trans) his videos literally don't bring in ads and don't have that many views. However, the front page is only concerned with keeping you on the site, right?

Is it possible that there's an in-between with the algorithm? That Jim's content can be promoted on the front page to inactive subscribers and those who still watch YongYea, MGV, UEG, and such, but will be lower in the search results because performance in views and lack of ads make it unprofitable? By my crack-pot theory, this would mean Jimbo is recommended as a "loss leader" of sorts in hopes that after you're done with him, you'll go watch similar content creators who actually bring money in.

Not saying any of this is true, but it's an interesting idea.

Jim Sterling at his highpoint was a big influencer and if he made a video for your little Indie Game it would mean sales.

He hardly even spends time making videos about games he likes, the only exception being that cutesy Bird Skateboarding game.

All he does now is shit exclusively on shovelware and mediocrity. And he's not particularly good at being one of those negative angry gamers. There are tons of gamers who lampoon bad games and they do a better job at it & receive far more views.

I have YouTube bookmarked to take me right to my subs feed so I haven't even seen the front page in years, but I imagine whether or not he appears there makes little difference; if anything it probably contributes to people unsubbing when they see his ghastly visage in the thumbnails.

As for the search results, I decided to test it out a bit: I searched 'Activision Blizzard lawsuit' and Jim didn't appear at all on the first page. As an interesting aside 'Activision Blizzard penguinz0' was one of the auto-complete suggestions.

Next, I tried 'video game crunch culture' and Jim's DigiPen video was the second result, but since it actually contains 'crunch culture' in the title I decided to be a bit more vague; 'video game crunch controversy' again puts him as the second result with the same video. Finally, I tried 'video game crunch' and that knocked him down to fourth place, again with the same video.

For my final test, I went with Jim's favourite hate-fuck: 'Bobby Kotick'. Jim appeared twice in the first page of results for Bobby's name; in 7th and 11th place, respectively.

This was by no means in-depth, so if anyone wants to conduct a more thorough experiment be my guest, but it would suggest to me the search has no particular bias against Jim (pretty sure I also hid him from my recommended video suggestions in the sidebar, for whatever that's worth).

This is someone bleeding out slowly over time.
I've seen it before. After a YouTuber peaks, their views plateau and then the channel stagnates. Then it's just a slow, neigh irreversible descent into irrelevance. This is what happens to a YouTuber who has made videos very similar to each other for a long time period. Since Jim's videos nowadays are interchangeable screeds against capitalism, it's no wonder he's losing subscribers. Plus, nobody wants to watch videos from a fat tranny.

Ah, cool. Thanks for the effort.

Shocker, people don't like watching an fat, annoying tranny. Which makes me wonder why so many people liked him when he was just fat and annoying.

Will there be a 30 minute long 800k coping video?
I see one of three outcomes:
  1. Jimbo ignores this entirely. This is the smart option.
  2. Jimbo makes another to cope. The anger will be clearly faked and overplayed and we cringe while wondering what his actual outlook on the matter is. If I was a gambler, this is where I'd throw some chips in.
  3. Jimbo makes another to cope. He loses all pretense of subtlety and self-awareness and straight-up loses it that, when the industry is finally getting revealed to be as abusive as he's been saying, transphobic-sexist-cis-white-bigot-fascist-nazis ruined his channel in the algorithm, and his fans truly don't understand the mental pressure to keep making this content. While I wouldn't say Jim is too smart to realize how bad of an idea this is, I doubt he has the mental (or physical) strength to do such a thing without weeks of planning.

Did you search in a complete fresh private browsing instance without logging in? YouTube tends to use their hidden tracking data on you to curtail search results to what they think you'd be searching for based on your past viewing habits.

Have Jim's fans complained en-masse that they've been unsubbed? That happened to other popular "controversial" YouTubers that YT wanted buried.

Of those options I'd choose option 3, but I think it would be more of a 2.8. Jim will tard rage and try to play it off as a joke like before, but he won't get the big name YouTubers to guest star. It might not be a dedicated video, just an extended intro or outro in yet another video complaining about AAA.

Lol, his sources are brave enough to anonymously whisper their crucial and vital complaints so a fat retard can shriek them from the rooftops, but not brave enough to let the people they have problems with know they have problems. And you wonder why they panic when confronted with the realities of programming

The teacher told me off, now I'm literally shaking
If I had a classroom full of dipshits who probably thought that tedious stuff like memory management has no real application in the field, so can we please get to how to best sneak Easter eggs in without my boss noticing, I also might yell loudly and harshly enough to trigger ptsd attacks. And lets be honest about who the type of dipshits to leak their issues to Jim Fucking Sterling Son are here

I think it largely game down to the fact that most other video game youtubers and websites would just shill for companies while he'd point out legitimate problems and wasn't afraid to shit on video game companies. The thing is he's been doing that for ten years now and is still repeating the same shit he was saying ten years ago, except now with added communism pushing and tranny shit.

Don't forget that because of his need for making videos a weekly thing, he's behind on all coverage compared to his competitors.

I'm staying with my original bet, even though I know it's wildly optimistic. I see him getting so big mad over hitting 800k that he quits the Jimquisition altogether.

No, as I said it was a very slapdash test. I quickly opened a incognito window and ran the same searches; the crunch ones all returned the same results, but interestingly the Bobby Kotick result was slightly different: Same two videos but in 4th and 10th place.

While I was at it I searched 'microtransactions' and Jim's horrific LKD crossover video appeared in 8th place. However, the specific title of that video --'Microtransactions Are An Accessibility Issue'-- appeared as one of the autocomplete results. So even with YouTube actively plugging his shit he still only managed 210k views.

I feel like this could be a fairly interesting thing to delve into if somebody has the time, given how much Jim bleats about YouTube burying his content.

That and he barely actually discusses video games anymore in favor how much he hates the people who make them, the video game system at large (heh, large), the people who play them and also the people who just want to watch a video about video games on a video games channel. Also, full episodes on toys just in case there was a danger of getting too close to video game content in the current week. I fear that we will never solve the transphobic mystery of how Fat James' channel was killed

I don't think it's any coincidence we've seen these problems get much worse as the scope of video game production has swelled astronomically. Back in the golden age of the PS2 you could probably fit any given dev team all in the same room; they answered to a single producer and the producer reported back to top brass.
I miss those days. I miss video game producers and companies being treated as celebrities.

you'd figure at this point he'd have them like twice a week, or a day or two after 'controversies' drop. Especially if he is repeating points he has already made in the past. Also, he doesn't work at the escapist anymore, where he had to have a weekly time slot.
