TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

She named her main character's love interest in the second book after the guy she's doing podcasts with:story:
Main character's love interest?! I thought that was Mantis-Bot?! Isn't part of the appeal of this series alien x human romance?! No wonder her fans aren't buying the second book!

Or is it a degenerate polyamorous thing? Was monogamous alien relations not spicy enough? I know I saw a fan of her book on twitter talking about shipping four people from it at once.

People from her clique are so obsessed with polyamory because they're too dysfunctional to maintain a healthy relationship with a single human being. It's much easier to frivolously fuck around with multiple people at once, than form a meaningful connection. I'm not even some "traditional values" obsessed puritan, but this current trend among lefties is just sad.

Has anyone noticed she’s calling herself an ex-youtuber on her Twitter? What could that mean exactly?

Angelina (writing/editing) and Elisa (admin/assistant) are quite probable since they are already dependent on her. Maybe Nella. Todd has been getting a lot of his legal shit sorted out lately with respect to copyright claims against his videos, which makes sense because his largest new sub bump is always with the year end top 10s, so might as well give new people a bigger backlog of content to consume and him more passive ad money for it. He will follow Lindsay wherever he can, though his skills apply more towards research, writing and voice-overs. Very interested to see how this plays out.

ETA: A mention on the "ex-youtuber" thread on Lindsay's subreddit that her PBS series will end soon too

Seems like a bit of a weak excuse, as she's barely making videos, has a podcast maybe 2x monthly and a third book to write. Will have to see if the series ends or Princess Weekes takes over as the sole creative.

She's quitting YouTube AND PBS is showing her the door?

If the BookScan sales numbers are as bad as I wager they are, more than ever betting all her chips on a writing career seems beyond foolish.

She certainly isn't going to pull down 100k a month like she does Patreon simp bucks... hope her various staffers/hangers on are polishing resumes.

I think it's just a way for her to try and distance herself from her past. She can't give up Youtube completely because it's where the majority of her income comes from, and I doubt the publisher is going to give her more work.

Though if she is quitting working to become a full-time housewife that'd be hilarious.

God, the mental image of Princess Weekes drooling at the mouth at the chance to push Lindsay out the door is *chef's kiss*
To be honest, I’m surprised it didn’t happen during Lindsay’s semi-cancelation. Princess Weekes tossed her overboard within a couple days and undoubtedly there were discussions at PBS about whether to stick with Boozy Lindsay or not. Perhaps there was an agreement that Lindsay would slowly bow out and get the fuck out within a year. It happens usually as a saving face measure - canceling her right away would rile up her simps but if done far enough away from it, there’s plausible deniability.

Good lord, Lindsay and her simps really are the embodiment of the old saying "the wise will make something complex easy to understand in a straightforward manner, while the fools who think they are wise will speak in an overly complicated way."

Seriously how hard is it to just say that you liked a certain aspect of a work without it turning into pretentious garbled BS?

Most of her intelligent takes she learned at film school (like her essay on Hercules and 3-act structure).

Also wow, Axiom's End 2 has been out for almost two months and no one talks about it. This thread is more active about Lindsay's writing career than her actual simps
Ive been waiting for kiwi plot summaries, but it just seems that the book is too terrible for even that

Gotta put that film studies degree and sense of "I'm smarter and better than you!" to use somehow. I find interesting how overinflated Ellis' ego is. Just because people say she was smart and made good movie analyzes. I fail to see what's so smart about how making videos insisting that 40+ year old Disney Princess films support your brand of Twitter politics. She's like WingsofRedemption in the sense that if they didn't got on the ground floor with their type of content, they would just be blips on the radar of the internet. She doesn't have the talent or charisma to build an audience outside of the momentum she got from starting as early with YouTube as she did when the level of competition was so much lower.

I’d say it’s more that there’s more to unpack than the story. Like how Lindsay’s career stock has taken a major slide.

I see that a lot. Always trying to make grand reasons for liking shit and also trying to make a big thing when they create instead of letting things be and just letting things like themes fall into place. Maybe things like Michael Bay Transformers making a lot of money made everyone in the Internet feel like they have to be some kind of “cultured” when it comes to liking things.

Axiom's End has a wiki page, but nothing on the sequel, which shows how little the fandom presence is. But from what I gather, even people who liked the first book found the second one unbearable because she tries to shoehorn "mature" themes like suicide and ptsd. The ending is basically: her human bf gets shot, she goes cry about it to the alien bf (like 5 minutes later), he yells at her for trying to kill herself, then another alien tries to kill him but she brings him back to life and they decide to leave Earth because humans are terrible and don't deserved to be saved or some shit. And the last chapter is an article by the dead journalist guy about how the humans Americans are a bunch of racists...

This is exactly how I think Lindsey would end this book. Shallow libshit doomer takes on humanity.

The expectation she subverts is my expectation of basic competence in a published work.

Edit: @Boston Brand Any funny shit happen at Worldcon? Or is it so soy you're growing moobs just being there?

Aside from Lindsay and a ton of others cancelling last minute?

Quiet so far. Maybe its just because the hotel is so massive but attendance feels so sparce. Like there are local conventions that pull bigger numbers at a casual glance. No wonder they have "digital members" to boost numbers.

And next year Worldcon opens against Dragoncon, so on top of a literal Hugo Awards vs Dragon Awards showdown, we have con ghost town versus con block party.

Knowing the crowd Lindsay runs with, people may not be coming because COVID.

So saw this at Worldcon with a certain drunk's name blacked out.

Turns out she cancelled last minute. Claimed health issues.

Wonder what the real reason is. If they tip off the winners in advance, I wonder if this means she lost the Campbell. Knock on wood.
Either the cirrhosis finally kicked in, or Lindsay knows she couldn't buy enough votes this year to swipe the award.

I'm sure Moviebob is the most devastated. He got his hover hand all worked up for nothing!

Unwise to waste an opportunity to smooch and promote your books to a lot of powerful people. But if I was privileged enough to make tens of thousands a month I would waste the opportunities too.
