14 or so fucking hours.
This is why you start your trip at like 11pm. Nobody's on the road. You would have saved yourself hours, plural.

Anyway for PL reasons I can't say why I travelled when I did, but i didn't have much choice in the start times, and i needed to be at [redacted] for 22:00.
Then park in a lot and sleep in your car like every other bum in the Bay.

The Viral TikTok Recipes Causing Food Shortages
While TikTok trends touch on everything from fashion to dance moves, none may be as prolific and impactful as a viral recipe. Shortly after appearing on TikTok, you can expect to find food media diving in with their own takes, while Harris Teeter has started stocking “As Seen on TikTok” displays.

The infrastructure bill included a provision to set up a pilot program allowing some 18- to 20-year-olds to drive big rigs across state lines, a job now limited to drivers 21 and older. Highway-safety advocates say that could make roads more dangerous.

The ATA backed that provision, along with others in the package aimed at promoting the recruitment and retention of women in the trucking industry and boosting transportation-sector diversity. The group on Thursday called the Biden administration’s plan “a robust training opportunity for future commercial truck drivers” and said apprenticeships would help people enter the profession without incurring substantial debt.

Okay, hot take. I have family member who works in financial aspects of the trucking industry (loans, leasing, finance, etc) who is no fan of Joe Biden, but he says that lowering the driving age to 18 is actually a good idea. Apparently the average age for a NEW trucker is in their 30s. It's almost always a second career. These are people who don't go to college, but they can't afford to wait until they're 21 to starting working, so they end up in other industries. Lowering the age to 18 would allow the trucking industry to get them straight out of high school, so they wouldn't be fighting against that gap, and it would be a lot easier to hire new truckers.

I have no knowledge of the industry myself, but I trust the person who told me this.

I honestly didn't comment because I'm not inherently opposed to letting 18 year olds do shit jobs that nobody else wants to do. I mean, I'm guessing it's one of those roll-the-dice things where it's a good or bad idea based on your personal perspective. Some bean counter can probably crunch the numbers or run a model and prove people will die. Someone else can probably show you hardworking 18 year olds who do dangerous jobs and it's fine.

In my part of Europe still any shortages besides electronics. But some items have a more painful prices than month ago - e.g. food for my dog get up by 15-20% in all of shops in one month. Thats more than other stuff (in EU inflation is rapidly expanding in all countries, in Eurozone is lesser, but in non-Eurozone members is mostly much higher).
Aye, inflation is going absolutely hogwild in my part of the world. Across the board 10-30% increases in food prices is already making a lot of people grumble. And not in a benign "oh I guess this is how it is now" kind of way either.

Be more specific please because right now the only place that really pings off in inflation is turkey and usa in the news

My natural inclination is that having 18 year olds do trucking will be a fucking disaster because an 18 year old is far more likely to make reckless choices than a 30 year old. But then I remembered most truckers are foreigners in the US and it wouldn't really be much of a difference one way or another. I believe that an 18 year old is less likely to be as assertive to rejecting bullshit as a 30 year old as well so you'll probably see even worse wage stagnation in the industry. For the first time in a very long time the truckers can force the price per mile to go up in favor of the trucker.

It’s all for show. The insurance rates companies would have to pay for 18 year old drivers would be astronomical. Not to mention that I think many states require a person be 21 to obtain a CDL.

I don't know if 18 year old truckers would really be more dangerous than some of the truckers already on the road. For one, it's harder for them to buy alcohol (can't get your friends to buy it if they're in another state), and you do see in the news every now and then truckers getting DUIs. Two, more 18 year olds might mean you have less truckers on the road for so long they literally fall asleep at the wheel. Sure, they'll get into wrecks on their own, but it'll probably balance out.

I mean, if nothing else 18 year olds can’t be worse drivers than Pajeets - look, the Pajeets might be able to make deliveries no matter the conditions (“Everything is Road”), but fuck if they still aren’t some of the worst drivers I’ve ever had the displeasure of sharing the road with…

Can drive massive truck, but can't buy stress relieving booze.
Sounds horrible injustice.
