Holy fuck Manchin was really leading Biden along. Apparently this week he gave Biden a draft for a compromise version of BBB he said he would vote for, which Biden approved of, and then Manchin did a 180 and went on Fox saying he actually won't be doing that. Manchin didn't tell the White House he was gonna go onto Fox and kill BBB until 30 minutes prior, which led to
the White House panicking and sending him phone calls which he ignored. Not even Bret Baier, the guy he was on air with, knew Manchin was going to say what he said.
What a class act.
The desperation is tangible. Not only does the White House feel genuinely betrayed by Manchin lying to their faces, they're also well aware that they need to get something, ANYTHING done.
this guy taught nick saban everything he knew, why wouldn't you expect him to take a small seat in west virginia and use it to become king of america? Nick Saban is the king of doing what you just described in college football. if he's the robin, then the dems should have just resigned when they knew they'd be negotiating with the batman
Tin-foil hat time: firms are not offering more competitive wages/benefits/what have you to attract new hires and alleviate the labor shortage because:
1. Those that are still working can just be asked to work longer hours and do more, so they don't have to take on new hires and be responsible for new wages and benefits and
2. Longer this goes on, the easier it will be to lobby for the mass importation of third-world special visa labor that can be paid pennies on the dollar
that makes sense, its cheaper to pay out overtime throughout the year than hire on more people.
Did West Virginia do particularly well economically under Trump? Manchin pulled the rug out from under Biden today and Biden has a reputation (or so claimed) of being a spiteful son of a bitch when crossed.
no, but whats odd politically about WV is how red it really is, Joe Manchin is almost the only democrat in the entire state at this point. He is the "lesser evil" and he has the rare achievement of being a beloved democrat. he's the token good one. sort of like how guilani or bloomberg was for NYC, you can whine about their party but you'd have to be brain dead to not vote for them come election time.
he's a democratic senator from a state that votes 3 to 1 GOP, the governor switched parties to win re-election, i wouldn't be surprised if joe does the same.
Another thing people forget is that Loudon county borders WV, so you think the school board situation was crazy for you, imagine seeing that shit happening literally in your own backyard, at this point the Dems poll roughly as well as the reform party and libertarians in the state.
on the flip side, isn't this how we want our politicians to act? he does what his constituents obviously want, he was elected when the state was still deep blue, but now that its bleeding red he still does what the constituents want and despite barely winning reelection last time he still does what the job of senator should be. he could have been fucking them like mccain, but he's earning his spot.
