Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

In my highschool locker room we used Axe as a deodorant but those cans were mostly just a convenient way to get a makeshift flamethrower into the locker room for hijinks while maintaining plausible deniability.
I knew a kid at school that used to snort Axe/Lynx deodorant. He liked the chocolate flavour

I feel bad for any non-consoomer parent that just wants to give their kid some good memories and they decide to go to Disneyland. Because it sounds like a completely stressful and wallet-draining place. And don't get me wrong, that's what amusement parks do (Rollercoaster Tycoon helped me see that when I could charge for bathrooms), but it feels like it's gotten a lot worse over the years. Standing for over an hour in a line to ride a roller coaster for 6 minutes is insane.

Is it like this at any other park? I'm hazy on American parks but I have a gut feeling that the Six Flags parks give you more ride time for your money than Disneyland.
It depends on the Six Flags park (you get to meet Bugs Bunny and shit at all of them). Some of the smaller ones do/did, but something like Six Flags Magic Mountain in California is actually worse than Disney in terms of waiting times. You'll wait 90 minutes minimum for any rollercoaster and the "fast pass" lane (which you pay extra for, but doesn't work on the fastest rollercoaster in the park which you pay extra for) is like half an hour. And you might not want to wait in line at some of the Six Flags Parks because of the clientele though. I was always told the one in Atlanta was the worst.

I've also been told that, but you're entirely correct about the demographics at a Six Flags park.

Good lord.

Not even actual helmets, just scale helmets

I'd love some F1 paintings, but some of this stuff is just overpriced.
But don't worry guys, you get bodywork from a car that's not even bigger than your hand.

Again, not an actual wing, its a scale model. Why buy a scale of a front wing?
Buying a scale model car? Sure. But a front wing?

If your gonna buy stuff at least buy a legit car part or something of historical importance to the sport.
Eric Epstein has what seems to be legit front bodywork of a NASCAR car in his filming room so I can understand that.
Thats pretty cool.
This is just fake.
"Look at my scale model front wing"

That said.

Are you sure he wasn't trying to get high off the fumes? Teenagers who can't afford real drugs do that sometimes.
That's exactly what it was, he was one a few kids who were doing it.
Good lord.

F1 merch and the cult of personality that surrounds some of the drivers (Lewis) is a whole mad little consumer culture of its own. There's nothing that fans won't buy.

I'd have that Renault though, if I ever had fuck-you money. I believe Lotus did a similar thing some years ago with a detuned, theoretically lower maintenance version of their car that you could buy for something like 1-2 million.

I'm torn when it comes to sports stuff. I'd say that's my weakness when it comes to consoomer stuff.
On one hand, if you want to support your favourite team/driver then that's fine.
I'm pretty autistic when Aston races because their local. Well endurance racing at least, I'm pretty neutral F1 wise.
I got a poster celebrating their Le Mans win in 2007 when my school was taking it down.
When I went to the silverstone museum they had a number of stuff that I'd imagine buying.

But that stuff? Spending £250 for a scale model front wing?
I bet you could find something real or a nice painting to hang on the wall for far less.

Sports is a real grey area because of memorabilia and genuine artefacts.
I'd say that's more enthusiast and collector though.

£4000 for a Piquet helmet, sheesh. Historical, but that's just insane.
I don't know whats worse, the scale helmets being over £100 or that.

Self confessed shrine by someone in a discord server I use.
I'd say its confined to a part of a room, some die casts, some books.
Keychains are excessive and not really needed but no real harm in this.

Sports is indeed a grey are because that’s an overlapping of consoomerism, legit collecting and cult of personality. I’ve been to Europe many times and the world of soccer and soccer players is probably worthy of a community watch thread.

I don't recall seeing a local archive of these videos so I'll put these here, if there already is one let me know and I'll take the post down.

Fuck it, I'm late but two things just came to me while I was drinking and watching the OT:

1) Those shitty control panels are actually pretty faithful to OG Star Wars, analog switches and blinky lights that don't do shit.

2) The rooms being small is retarded for a hotel but make sense for a star cruiser. It's a cruise liner in space. You ever seen a cruise ship's cabins? They're fucking tiny, that's why there's so much focus on the rest of the ship being full of things to do. Still a retarded idea for a hotel though and the video looks like trash warmed over.

That's the thing that always urked me about pops.
They ALL look the same except for a handful that actually are unique.

Laura Palmer, a murdered girl wrapped in plastic.
Alex Delargo, a killer and a rapist.
All immortalized into shitty plastic form, because someone at Funko has a sense of humor and knows how truly bad things are.
Part of the appeal for Funko Pops is that they get a SLEW of licenses that under normal circumstances would NEVER get a proper action figure release. Hence the casual basic bitch appeal to people who buy them, since they have shit that normally you can't find if you are into action figures or certain franchises.

Hell, as it stands, I can think of only a couple of major shows that have avoided POP mania: The Shield, Sopranos, Oz, The Wire, Melrose Place, Beverly Hillbillies.

That’s not even bad, most of the items there are a good conversation starter to have with them

If they branded one of their Disney cruise ships as the hotel it would actually make sense and be interesting, also you could just ignore all the geek shit and get drunk and suntan on the deck / pools.

I don’t get why someone would pay those prices for a building in the shape of a starship

One of my irl friends used that argument to me when I was commenting on how much I hate them, and I asked her why she simply couldn't make her own merchandise of her favourite franchise instead of buying soulless plastic demons and "official mugs" which just has the show logo on it.

And I was basically told it's "too hard".

I understand the frustration if you're not into art or writing. But generally, if you really enjoy something and want to show it, you will take the time to learn how to be creative and make your own merch. It doesn't take a genius to watch a couple youtube videos on Graphic Design, download a cracked Photoshop, and learn how to print off your own stickers using the right paper from staples. But that's time investment, which I guess no one wants to do anymore?

And you can get why companies love the consoom mentality because if you get caught up in the hype for a show or product and you're too lazy to make anything, you'll just buy the Funko Pops and lanyards. In a year, when you drop out of that franchise, they'll still have your money and you have to dispose of the garbage you bought.
