TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

I love Todd’s stuff because I love music. He has a steady output of videos that are well researched and funny. I know he isn’t for everyone but his videos make my day and I rewatch them a lot. He’s not as political in his videos as he could be which I appreciate.
Similar. OHW and TW have high rewatchability. I watched his stuff from 2011-2013 and again from early 2019-now, so I completely missed Gamergate and #CTC (wasn't really on the Internet much at that time), and even signed up to his Patreon for both videos and the podcast (one of the first ones lol) because I liked his Semisonic video. Then I made the mistake of looking at his Twitter and quite accidentally found Lindsay's thread here, learned about his support for Nick Nyberg and Dan Olson and was disappointed. I'd always found Lindsay smart but patronizing so reading the story of her career here was (and remains) fine entertainment. But I like Todd's videos, I like his voice and general delivery and just wish he wasn't such a pedosimping cuck soyboy cliche. Meh. Everyone has a guilty pleasure.

and I saw the movie and the plot of his movie is template YA dystopia fight the big corp/gov bullshit.
And it was directed by Steven Spielberg. That was the most shocking part of that film.
I mean, Christ help me, but I've read Cassandra Clare's city of Bones and that thing was abysmal on how bad it was (no, never read twilight, I don't know how bad it is in comparison), and Clare wa getting all sorts of praise, at least at the moment I've read it, so where was the hate brigade from other author to that piece of shit?
Cassandra Clare Hate? Have you by any chance heard of The Draco Trilogy?

Again, he always seems to avoid getting a thread of just one more day, because his output is at least decent. But you gotta admit, it's a slippery slope and there's an avenue to a thread being created. I call him Icarus for a reason.

And while ago, when the buzz of the movies was going, I skimmed the first book and yeah, his prose seems to be pretty amateurish even for a layman like me, and his relieance on member berries is some of the worst example of nostalgia whoring we have, and I saw the movie and the plot of his movie is template YA dystopia fight the big corp/gov bullshit.
I actually enjoyed the movie, but that's probably only because I was warned well in advance that it was "Nostalgia Bait: The Movie" and adjusted my expectations accordingly. It's over an hour of 'haha i got that reference' for boomers and some older millennials and if that's what you're expecting going in, you'll have a good time.

I love this, its like the most hackneyed Star Trek premise possible. 'You humans eat animal flesh? How incomprehensible, and barbaric'.

Himmelskeibet Excelsior is a 1918 Danish film about a mission to Mars. Here, the captain of the expedition horrifies the locals by shooting a wild bird.

I cannot imagine Captain Kirk being this clueless about native customs.

I'm sorry but I don't give a shit if his books make the wokes angry (like anything else in life), Ernst Clyne is a horrible hack and RPO is the literary equivalent of Crohn's disease. There are plenty of shitty authors who can knock out a fun story without having to rely on TV Tropes-level of dialectics just to get from one page to another.

I honestly don't get this crazy amount of hate Ernest Cline gets from other writers that are so openly about it, what is up with that?
Apologies if this is off topic, but...
Speaking only for myself, not only is Ready Player One badly written, and poorly plotted, with the most boring conceivable "challenges" but the happy ending is one of the most broken Aesops in fiction.
If the Enterprise flew to the world of Ready Player One Captain Kirk would burn OASIS to the ground to force the population to deal with real life. And he'd be right to do it.

The way they talked about her made it sound like her mental health is shit right now though, unsurprisingly.
Understandable, since her life is now in a downward spiral.

She got major backlash from her Twitter cancellation and her response video that torpedoed her public image

Her second book is bombing hard.

Her PBS job is about to be handed off to Princess Weekes, who you just know secretly hate each other.

Her Patreon is atrophying.

Cancelled con appearances and failed to snag any awards

Is going to have to crawl back to YouTube despite her obvious desire to get as far away from it as possible.

I bet Lindsay's bill for Drizzly booze delivery hits the triple digits every week now

And I don't feel sorry for her one bit.

I was under the assumption that the book was doing moderately well according to Amazon reviews and that her fanbase was bigger than ever. I mean, don't get me wrong, I hope she falls flat on her ass, penniless, homeless and jangling a tin cup asking for likes while she mumbles to herself about the patriarchy, but what happened to her credibility in the past few months that shows her inevitable decline?

The whole Twitter and “Mask Off” saga. Also, the second book in her trilogy didn’t have the promotion of her first and any novelty there in the book world wore off.

You know, instead of trying to transition to a novel writing career, she would have done better becoming a documentary maker, or maybe filming something original, then getting it on Netflix or Amazon Prime. But it was a publishing company that approached her so that's what she went with.

Cline himself really personifies what a straight white male nerd was in the 2000s and RPO, coming out in 2011, was like a capstone on that era of nerd culture before things started changing in 2012.

All of which is one of the Great Satans that Woke seeks to destroy.

Ready Player One had a very strange history. There was a podcast that summed up the reception of the book as "mass hysteria" because it was lauded and acclaimed despite very obviously not being very good. I think that everyone thought Cline was basically doing a gimmick book, that the nerd stuff was a big act he was doing, a critique of shallow nerd culture and TV Tropes mindset, and so praised it under that assumption. Then I think as people realized that Cline is just a big mega nerd manchild consoomer, it suddenly wasn't an amazing work of deliberate 1980s nerd perspective or whatever but just a manchild going MEMBER THIS? over and over again.

So Mags Visaggio, but with a deeper body of work? I could see it, but it probably has the same pitfall of simpbux not translating into realizable income for anyone else.

Ok fair enough, but based on initial interest, didn't she bring in the sheckles regardless of the drop off? Even if her sales went the way of Old Yeller, she should still be laughing all the way to the bank.

I got the book in a Lootcrate years ago and thought it was a good sleeper hit; for me at least. I had no idea it would be made into a big budget movie.

Lindsey believes her writing is nerdy and deep, but didn't count on how shallow her views REALLYA are and didn't check the mental gas tank before barreling into another ill-advised literary venture. Most of what she does has simp written all over it and believes her career can survive no matter what she produces because her bread and butter comes lonely betas and upset ugly female millenials that have struggled in the job market blaming their depression and failure on men.
