The global version of Steam has been blocked in China - A Christmas gift from Xi

They also completely ignore Linux, which is ironic for a company selling DRM free games.
apparently they fired their only linux guy as a cost cutting measure or something.
on one hand another dosbox conig won't be much different on linux, for everything else they should just offer a community site like proton does (or they checked and most of their games are already covered by it, so why bother)

Russians and Brazilians will work extra hard to make up for the lack of chinks.
meanwhile yuropoors have to deal with slavs where half the time you have to wonder if they're cheating or just legit in their slav-ness (the gregor-meme has to come from somewhere).

Well I guess one side-effect of this is that the man behind this Steam account with a Nekopara avatar, wallpaper, fanart, achievement showcase showing off his 100% completion of Nekopara games, and OVER 9000 HOURS LOGGED PLAYING NEKOPARA will have to find a new hobby.

He's currently offline. RIP Cat Loli Man.

Idk how this shit works but hopefully this doesn't impact me getting a Steam Deck.

Gabe helped build spying software for the US government during his tenure at Microsoft. He is not to be trusted.
Use GOG instead.
GOG cucked to China and didn’t even have the balls to admit it, blaming “gamers” for requesting the change. And given how much GOG pushes GOG Galaxy these days, it’s not unreasonable to assume that’s a form of spyware itself.

>Hey, are you sure letting go of the guy that makes windows games perfectly playable on linux is a good idea?
<LMAO duh! Let them fuck around with WINE if they really want to play Windows games
Pirates justified yet again! Why bother giving money to a company that doesn't give a shit about you?

Granted, it's not that hard to configure WINE, but it's not exactly perfect either.

Linux sucks less than Windows. But it is still fucking terrible.

The last good OS was Windows 95.

to be fair it's still a for profit company, means they can't just throw money out of the window (or not for long). most of the old games should work just fine under linux, performance won't be an issue and even most compatibility has been figured out these days. any other game that also gets sold on steam most likely has a proton entry and community working on it which is more than gog could ever do or even contribute unless they pay someone to work on proton and/or provide monetary incentive to publishers for better linux support on their end.
sure, they could provide linux "installers" (even tho there are tools to extract the existing ones and most people using linux know how to use them and get the game running), but then they would have to provide it by themselves for their whole catalogue (else someone will complain game X doesn't have one) for a user base that is how big?

it's easy to shit on them, but it's just as easy to miss/ignore the contributing factors.
