But the Book of Mormon is supposed to be "a new Christian Testament for a new continent". Mormons are meant to not think of everything holy having happened over in the old world, but capable of happening right here in the New World. That what was so compelling about it for a lot of converts, it was Christianity given new relevance and one that very much supported Manifest Destiny from the get go.

I have hypothesized before how Biden could possibly try to perpetuate the Covid hysteria for as long as possible, but I'm really beginning to think he's made his choice: it needs to end eventually, and Omicron is giving a real tantalizing way out for him. He's also begun to teeter into the negatives on Covid approval as was said here:

I don't think that Biden CAN get out even if he wanted to. In the state of Branch COVIDifornia, mask mandates are all over various counties (I can't confirm if the based counties are doing it too) and the cities went full vaccine passport. Even if Biden declared COVID over, the state governors and down enjoy the emergency powers they were given and thus will continue it anyways, which constitutes an optics failure for the Feds.

It might be possible for Republicans to leverage their ability to stop COVID and trick Branch COVIDians into thinking that Biden is a "Republican" president if he stops backing COVID.

Really Mormonism is a bizarrely fascinating UFO religion before UFO religions were actually a thing. It takes very recent scientific discoveries (like the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, which made translation of Egyptian possible; and of course the various advancements in astronomy at the time) and then tries to insert them into a very Americanized version of Christianity. I agree that they're NPCs, but every time they go to a store that still demands mask mandates, they'll still think COVID is around. While the Dem leadership can turn around and declare COVID over, the regular NPCs can't turn that fast because to use a store or a bank requires wearing a mask. As long as the masks stay on, COVID isn't over optically.

Unlike Japan pre-COVID, where wearing a mask was more a sign of consideration and volunteered, our mask wearing is like the Burqa.

I don't even think they want it to continue because it's exciting, I think they want it to continue because modern society has bred a very specifically broken kind of person who, because they are so used to having their life micromanaged by technology, is content to follow rules and hates when people openly flout the same rules they themselves abide by. The polarizing element of social media doesn't help either. If anything, it exacerbates this behavior.
