I was at a bit of a loss as to where to put this and finally figured it was more Covid related.

Residents under strict lowdown rules in one of China’s largest cities say they are facing starvation after they were banned from going outside to get food.

Officials running the city of Xi’an on Monday told its 13million inhabitants they were only allowed out from their homes when invited to take part in a new round of mass Covid testing, or for medical emergencies.

Before the severe measures were introduced, one member from each household was allowed out once every two days to buy food.

The lengths people are going to keep their "liberal """friends""" " sure is getting ridiculous.
This very extreme case aside, I do keep seeing more rational-minded people talking about things their "liberal friends" do and say to them and it is baffling to me why they are still friends with them. I feel like a lot of people have this idea they shouldn't leave friends because of ideological differences but there's a certain point you need to protect your own dignity and safety, for Christ's sake.
Centrists/conservatives/non-liberals really need to start growing balls about anything or they're going to end up in camps saying "but can you imagine if the roles were reversed!"

Well think about it from the liberal friend's perspective. He's risking the acceptance of his even more liberal friends by hanging around a dangerous wrongthinker who believes the First Amemdment isn't so bad and doesn't worship the virus cult. Most far-leftoids have long since cut contact with anyone who isn't as far-left as they are. It's better to be the more tolerant one and agree to disagree/call him a faggot and move on--wait for him to cut contact with you first.

Are there ANY leftists who opposed any of this? Seems like "trust the science bro" dominates the entire spectrum of the left to some degree or another, from the establishment goons to literal communists. The cope from the communists is that it's because of capitalism the virus spreads since if they were in power they'd have it like Vietnam or China which have "eliminated" the virus. And the vaxx is actually good and works, but the government needs to nationalize Pharma and give it to the Third World for free or whatever. The closest I've seen are articles about left-wing "antivaxxers" who are mostly crunchy granola whackos who've always hated vaccines plus a couple of people with some common sense and realize it's all corporate welfare to Pfizer, but I'm pretty sure this group likes lockdowns and mask mandates.

I think it's just how stupid the left is on this matter. They want to look like good people, so won't buy into arguments that sacrificing a couple old people here and there is worth the government and its megacorporation friends not enriching themselves at the expense of literally everyone else and gaining all sorts of new ways to trample on the working class. Or for the part of the left obsessed about race, not letting the same governments they accuse of white supremacy be allowed new ways to oppress minorities. I think this makes sense for the modern left, since they believe a revolution can be entirely bloodless and anyone who dies (like the liberals who get the bullet too, or the "fascists") chose to die. And when revolutions kill millions of people, it wasn't real communism anyway. While your grandma was somehow murdered by the government when they chose to haul people off to concentration camps for leaving their homes, and this makes the government fascist.

Based on this, we've somehow moved to an era where both alleged and actual fascists are somehow better at getting leftist things done than the actual left. Maybe not really a surprise when I can turn on Tucker Carlson and he's saying more anti-corporate things than most Democrats will say.

It depends where you are in the country. Victoria and New South Wales have decided to let it rip and will move to testing only symptomatic cases with minimal quarantine requirements. The rest of the states aren't quite there yet as they're not as used to having Covid around. Western Australia still continues to impersonate North Korea and will lock people up for being in public while having a cold.
