Today's grocery report from west coast urban USA:

1. Heavy cream and its relatives wiped out in two different stores. It had been getting to slim pickings the last few weeks but today there were obvious gaping holes in the case where the stock should be.

2. Weird gaps all over produce. Lots of "sorry we hope to restock soon" tags. Mostly things like celery root and cilantro, staples seemed ok.

3. My household is fond of a couple keto recipes that call for creamy soft cheese like brie so I buy some every trip. Today and earlier this week the stores were completely wiped out of stock on ALL varieties- nothing I could even buy to sub for what I usually use. There was one sad, damaged block of brie at Safeway, from some cheapo brand I never saw before. That's it.

4. I passed the ice cream section in one store and it was odd looking, a couple unpopular flavors spread waaaaaaay out to cover the fact that they were out of almost everything else. Same thing with coffee creamer.

5. Meat section in Safeway was similar, they had some weird looking bags of spicy chicken they had strewn in a thin line all the way down one of the cold cases to fill the empty space.

I'm really bummed because I'm going to have to cut back to filling my bird feeder every other day. I already stopped buying seed from my local gardening store because it was too expensive, but now even a bag of Southwest Blend at Walmart is $40. Normally I would cut it with some of the really shitty economy blend, but for the past 5 months they've had nothing but the Southwest Blend, thistle seed, and on two occasions small bags of safflower.

I also had to put the chuck roast back because it was too much money. Just going to have pork chops instead. Fuck this gay earth.

Great, now there will be disgruntled birbs too.

I can't help leaving the grocery store every time wondering what the fuck is going on with beef. I never really had a good grasp on reasonable pricing for whole cuts but for me I remember $2/lb for regular 80% ground being the not too uncommon sale price. Now they're acting like $4/lb for 73% is worth advertising as a sale pricing. Just plain nonsense.

ETA: I also can't find any toaster strudels (well ones that aren't like egg and cheese or something) they're all gone at my nearby stores. What the fuck am I supposed to eat in the morning when I'm hungover now?

$4.99/lb is the going rate for the ground beef at grocery outlet, and I load up to stock the freezer every time I go. But that used to be the normal price for normal store ground beef, and the better stuff at that.

Are there any horse feed/farm supply stores nearby? Those tend to have bulk birdseed, suet, and stuff like that dirt cheap. Home Depot and Lowe's also have been cheaper than some alternatives for seed.

Source -- Magpies are ravenous but too fun not to feed to their greedy little hearts' content.

It seems to be the general consensus that the supply chain issues aren't going anywhere in 2022, so I look forward to another year of following this absolute shitshow.

Hold onto your butts, frens. If they continue to push everything to shut down again due to the wuflu then it's only going to get worse.

At this point learn to garden some of the plants the seeds are grabbed from. If this shit continues it'll be more economical.

I mean, if nothing else 18 year olds can’t be worse drivers than Pajeets - look, the Pajeets might be able to make deliveries no matter the conditions (“Everything is Road”), but fuck if they still aren’t some of the worst drivers I’ve ever had the displeasure of sharing the road with…
Kinda off topic but whenever the case of Pajeets and driving comes up I feel the need to share this video. Both because it's hilarious and because it shows just how bad they are at driving, as well as pretty much everything else. I would trust 12 year old girls to be truck drivers before pajeets.

Yeah, small package shipping which includes electronics has been more than adequate for a while. Jury out on anything imported though.
I think I posted months ago about ordering some cheap earbuds for exercise (since they always break after like a year, I like having extras) off Amazon and I still never got them and Bezos stole my 15 bucks. Probably lost in a shipping container somewhere at sea.

It already is bad, China's doing a couple new shutdowns and shipping crews (like 25% of merchant ship crews are poor-ass Filipinos) are getting sick of this shit and quitting in large numbers. Look up how bad shipping crews normally have it and then check the shit they've been through these past two years. Awful shit like being forbidden from coming ashore, being stuck at sea for months, vaxxmaxxing because countries all have different entry protocols and demand the mRNA juice and not the Chinese placebovaxx, etc. They aren't putting up with this, and the world is fucked as a result.

Do you also get your gas from Chevron and your coffee from Starbucks?
Quit wasting your money on "high end" shit that's the exact same quality as the hoodest ghetto shit.
And heavy cream? Nigga check your supermercados, you don't even need to speak Spanish, just make sure your money spends.

So you already know, then.

Safeway is the ghetto super market where I'm from.

Also I've had no issues here with food, but I live in a "port"

I get my food delivered to me weekly like the lazy entitled millennial I am.

My preferred store had no whole chickens. Had to settle for leg quarters, which is too bad as my dog loves chicken backs. They had whole duck, cornish hens, and turkey though (all a bit pricier than whole ‘fryers’ [actually roasters]).

Our last remaining feed store closed 5 years ago sadly. You're right I should try Lowes or Home Depo though.

I think I will. I already have a bachelor button plot because even though it's not native both species of Goldfinch love them. I've done Love-lies-bleeding in the past, I'll probably do it and some milo too.

Not sure why you are so incensed by my grocery habits but Safeway is not "high end" here. Not sure where it would be. The Outlet is nice but their stock is inconsistent, it's not a place where you can reliably get the same things every week. Great, today there's a case of 89 cent Apple Pumpkin Holiday Chex, but there are no large eggs or onions. It's also not in my neighborhood, it's a special trip made less frequently.

I’ve noticed some people get elitist about saving as much money on groceries as possible (ignoring the cost of colon cancer etc. for some reason). But there’s a reason poor people have so many medical problems.

Where I live you can’t get to a discount grocer without going somewhere where shootings aren’t even considered news by the media.

Got some fireworks for New Year's Eve. Same place I go every year. Piss poor selection. Owner says he couldn't get any of the cool shit in because of the supply chain. Last year we had a bunch of these huge boxes that were 40-50 shots each, this year he was selling bags of three blocks with 15-20 shots each for around $80.

Fireworks were only like a minute and a half long this year.

I can't even blow myself up anymore.

If the pets test positive, they get shot, killed, or sometimes taken (probably to be ground up into food or maybe sold to a wet market
Just because the bat wasn't actually the beginning doesn't mean they need to hasten things, but chinese never learn.
Also my local walgreens is completely out of disposable masks, like 100%. Used to have well over 50 boxes and within a week they were gone. Oh, and like 3/4 of the shit they were supposed to sell for Christmas didn't come in.
