Stalker Anomoly, get past the overdone graphical changes and it's just "2hardcore4u" meme Stalker. It's so low effort beyond it's pretty veneer. It has nothing actually cool or groundbreaking compared to other compilations like DrX's Call of the Zone which adds and expands upon the dynamic faction system, adds dynamic quests and so on. That's what Stalker mods should try to do. Add to what's already there. Improve the aspects of the game that are lacking. Instead of changing things to a more shallow experience. If you like Anomoly, you're exposing yourself as someone who doesn't know or care about what Stalker actually is beyond whatever Reddit memes have circulated around. Stalker isn't just "it's like dark and gritty and russian and stuff." it's much more. It's a very specific and palpable atmosphere and vibe that's so easily unbalanced. Surrealist shit mixed with an increasingly foreboding feeling of apathy from an alien landscape. Along with a zone that seems alive and reacts to you to with unknowable intelligence. It's not an outright cruel and dark place. The people make it cruel and dark. Not the environment.

Ah man Half life is a treasure trove of shit like this. I was smart enough not to try some of the more stinky ones sadly. Although Jolly Wangcore is a great source of laughs

I think one of the most disappointing mods I ever played was some episodic series that never got another episode. It had a really neat opening of crash landing on a zombie island but ended being 70% lazy gun fights against hostile Resistance civilians and ended with the Player falling into a hole and getting knocked out. Cant seem to find or remember the name.

(Not to be confused with Underhell, THAT IS AWESOME SHIT AND YOU NEED TO PLAY IT)


Also nightmare house 2 is rather overrated. It's decently made and has good production value, but it's way too predictable and short.

It was kind of fun. Things like aliens in sombreros or defeating mecha-Hillary by firing e-mail servers at her were funny, but the mod itself is just large open areas with random textures and hundreds of enemies dropped in without any thought. As a result, the trailer is more fun than the mod.

I think the Bolloxed version removed all the custom music too.

If the mod had a little more care put into it, it could've been a fun meme mod.

I don't mind Cinematic Mod. I never played it, but I find the fanboys still raging about the mod 8 years later to be far more cringe than anything the mod itself did.

Episode 3: The Closure also gets a lot of shit, but I thought it was fine. Again, seeing Valve News Network have a 3 minute sperg-out on a stream over a gun spin reloading animation is much worse than the animation itself.

About the Cinematic Mod, I don't think the whole concept was crap, just the questionable bits like the ones I said in my post above.

If you manage to get the rid of the characters, the NSFW graffitis and some out of place details (ie pine trees in the coast levels) it could become a great Half-Life 2 enhancement mod.

They hyped the shit out of this game with a well made fake trailer, before delaying it to kingdom come and finally releasing an absolute mess for 10 bucks. It's poorly structured, has terrible cutscenes, the missions are too big, and your expected to take on entire army's worth of enemy's with barely any resources.

It is actually rather well done. Its fucking pretty crazy, but holy shit. Its cringe, but also hilarious. It might not deserve a spot here or to be called 'bad' but I really need to call EVERYONE'S attention to it.

While it's been beaten to death here, I can't get over the Fallout New Vegas Frontier mod. It's fucking awful, but the most egregious part is Mike Burnfire still shilling for the devs months after everyone got over it. I know it's because him and Zach were voice actors in the mod, but even Zach shits all over it in their playthrough. I used to watch those guys religiously, mostly for Zach's gun rants, but Mike seems to be all about pandering to make that youtube scratch these days. It's made their videos unwatchable so fuck that faggot.

It's interesting how ambitious it is in quality, but its so hilariously uninspired when it comes to the plot. I love how cartoonishly obvious and evil Ray Chase is in it. Kinda wish Hunt down the freeman was that level of so bad its good. (except for all the very unappealing sex scenes)

Supposedly a continuation of an Oblivion mod, it's got all the hallmarks: horrible voice acting, horrible mic quality, horrible writing and most importantly, an appearance detailed for coomers. The fact that this is on the first page when you search by most popular on Nexus really tells you a lot about the community.

A very popular DLC-sized expansion mod that was considered the pinnacle of Skyrim modding. In other words, it was heavily overrated. A disappointing map that is literally just Oblivion's Cyrodiil except maybe worse, and outdated memes sprinkled throughout. I'd say it's just mediocre, with a few really bad moments here and there.

Oh, and the author was so high on his own farts that he actually thought this was comparable to Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

A mod that adds a shit ton of custom-voiced NPCs with their own backstory, heavily praised by the community, especially Reddit. And like any other Skyrim mod, it's hit or miss (often miss). The voice acting is really inconsistent, the NPCs really, really like to dump their whole backstory on you the moment you meet them, and the dialgoue options are limited to snark, rude, dickhead and asshole.

It's also, unfortunately, pozzed. The first NPC you'll likely meet rants about racism, and there's supposedly gay and tranny NPCs somewhere. Oh yeah, and there's also the "I'd like to piss on you" dialogue option and the father-daughter incest NPCs somewhere in Candlehearth Hall. Fun.

You can guess why Reddit likes this so much.

GTA: Alien City. A really weird (and honestly impressive) total conversion mod that puts CJ on the alien planet Anderius to do ayy lmao things and shoot ayy lmaos, which features an entire storyline and world. It's as if a few russians who are into aliens and San Andreas snorted a shit ton of coke and went to work. It's really bizarre, especially with how much effort is put into it with custom animations and modeling work.

Quick question are the new NPCs killable? or are they all Essential?

If you can kill said NPCs then I say the mod is based as fuck. Image this, you meet the guy who rants about racism, and off him because his whining is annoying.
But if they all Essential, wouldn't that ruin the point of adding more NPCs? Also make the dragon born look weak as fuck.

Don't get me started on Falskaar. I can ignore a lot of shittiness in Skyrim mods. To paraphrase MxR, I can't hate too much on a mod that someone made for free to share with fellow Skyrim fans unless it's really terrible. I don't know if it's Special Edition but the scripts on Falskaar are constantly shitting themselves, I've never once beaten it and I haven't found a set of console commands that would unfuck it (mostly related to NPCs not hitting their marks to start events, and moving said NPCs usually results in them running back to where they were spacing out at which tells me they're not getting stuck on objects). Supposedly the bad guy gets ate by a random dragon but he is always farting around in some random field when we're supposed to be having our final conflict.
