Lucky for us farmers have improved their methods of operation, and know how to actually apply science to improve their results as opposed to "scientists". Seriously farmers(not of the kiwi variety) are some of the smartest most knowledgeable people you'll ever meet. I'd add that our infrastructure is much improved over the america of the 1930's, dilapidated as it may be, which gives me hope that food will not have an issue reaching regions that don't grow much of their own. Here's an interesting anecdote, a lot of people associate the Great Depression with starvation, and this is true. Many people, especially in the South and Appalachia IIRC, had a very hard time in the early 30s. It's just that 1929-31 had record harvests on the Plains. The farmers plowed up and planted as much as they could to make money because the prices for their food kept falling. And then a lot of that harvest ended up rotting because it was too expensive to process and transport it where it needed to be. And then the farmers helped cause the Dust Bowl because their actions helped cause insane erosion.
Considering how much this world sucks, we're probably set for another round of screwed up economic logic causing misery.
