Which brings up a question I've asked many many times before.
With Snopes being used as a Credibility Sink by the left (1000 people saying "no that's wrong" doesn't have the impact of a 1000 people pointing to an "accredited fact checker") -- why hasn't the right done the exact same thing? Create something neutral sounding (don't call it PatriotFacts or something jfc) and debunk the left's lies. Then the right can point at it and go "No, fact checkers say that Biden actually DID shit his pants in front of the pope. See?"
Because they don't fucking care. They'll lock onto anything to justify themselves, even if it's nakedly incorrect. And that's a
feature, not a fucking bug. Look at any fucking major shitstorm in the last decade, and you'll see that the gulf between what
actually happened and what these idiots think happened is fucking
vast. Part of this, owing to the media, is not their fault, but the ones permanently plugged into Social Media 100% embrace this paradigm, and they refuse to even countenance anything that would prove them wrong.
What's weird is that it wasn't always like this. There were things that they'd always disregard you if you went against the grain on, but most of the time, if you had the right argument, you could convince them that you had a point and give them something to think about. This changed, however, when the hard-left types basically overran the left's communities around 2010. When that happened, the new rulers of these place essentially made dissent
verboten. They chased away independents and potential allies formerly on the right, then mercilessly persecuted the moderates until they were afraid to speak up. You can ask anyone who was on a Dem-leaning website around 2006 and stuck around until 2012, and they could tell you, in real time, how their community came to be utterly dominated by these clowns - and that gets to why they react this way:
You even questioning this shit means that you're doubting the tenets of their faith.
They react, chapter and verse, the
exact same way that the Moral Majority clowns did on certain topics - not with accepting the new information, but with vitriol for you for daring to bring something that runs counter to their worldview to the table. Even if you were perfectly respectful and even reverent of their beliefs, it didn't matter; the fact that you had the gall to challenge it in any capacity in the first place meant you needed to be disregarded immediately.
Think back just a few years, and remember how many people claimed Kyle Rittenhouse shot black people, or that Trump never condemned the shitheads in Charlottesville. The real videos are both out there and readily available, the video evidence utterly destroys the talking points, but these people won't fucking believe it, even if it's staring them in the face. For many of them, you can't address them with facts; you need to react like you're dealing with one of the Pat Robertson types from the 90s, and plan accordingly.
