High Guardian Spice - Tumblr: The CalArt Anime

I just have to point to these two tweets from earlier that fucking blows Raye's complaints out of the water and prove that she's a jealous, salty bitch.

First off, she admits it's a cartoon and not an anime, so WHY THE FUCK is it on an ANIME-STREAMING platform, you dumb bitch? You want to know why it bombed so hard? You targeted the wrong audience who told you from day one it had no reason being on Crunchyroll. Western cartoons don't belong on Crunchyroll. Not even Castlevania is on there even though people (wrongly) claim it's an anime.

Good job revealing that Onyx Equinox is the superior show because I guess it took the entire budget that should've gone to your pwecious qweer show. Or maybe it's because it's super obvious OE is a true passion project that had a lot of time (i.e. years) and effort put into it.

That's why she wanted a crossover to happen with this show before, because they're apparently "sister shows", However, pointing out the better show in a thread where you're literally crying your show has been critically torn apart and most likely also unrenewable just further proves you're incompetent but also a pain in the ass who'll find herself blacklisted like Kate Leth and John Kricfalusi due to being insufferable to work with if she keeps this up.

Though comparing her to Kricfalusi is bad optics, because Kricfalusi is an actually talented cartoonist who fucked himself over for being a creep. Fucking yourself over for being a petty liable bitch so soon out of the gate will look super amazing on your résumé, sweetie. And good riddance to bad blood.
I can't really see what the crossover is with Onyx Equinox apart from it's also a Crunchy Roll exclusive and not an anime. Never seen it but its a different animation studio, different creator, different director, etc. Doesn't really seem like it's the same team.

This Raye dude just seems to be the same as Rebecca Sugar but 6 years too late. If she'd got in earlier with this shit it probably would've picked up the Stephen Universe crowd. Also she should've put in more shit music because all the autistic children like ukelele songs to keep them interested. Sugar disappeared once that shit show was done, Raye is gonna do the same. You're one in a million now. How many of these shows tout having diverse crews now? If doesn't suddenly make you a hit anymore.

I'm not sure if Raye has a choice; Crunchyroll won't return his calls, and her only shot at getting another gig with another publisher is blaming them.
I'm also dubious that the budget could have such an impact on the writing. However, I'll admit it's possible. My impression, overall, is that HGS scripts were "First Draft Theater." I have not seen the show, but reviews seem to agree it repeats the same plot points over and over instead of trusting the "mature audience" to pick up on plot points. For example:
Sage is seen off by her parents. Rosemary is seen off by her father and older brother. Mom is obviously out of the picture for some reason. That's all you need.
Also, "Stop making fun of me wah" is a girl's reaction. Not a mature woman's, and certainly not a man's.

Castlevania being promoted as an anime (along with stuff like DOTA and Archane when they clearly aren't) is Netflix's fault. It surprises me that they didn't try promoting Voltron or Kevin Smith's He-Man series as anime, but that's another topic for elsewhere.

My real question is why did Crunchyroll even greenlight this series or Onyx Equinox in the first place. Was it to diversify their output? Because they were desperate for material and they couldn't get more Japanese studios lined up because of Japan's notorious treatment of its animators? Was it out of laziness? Did Raye pay them off? Honestly, I would love to know how in the flying fuck a show like this made it onto the platform.

Imagine your character writing is so good that on Wikipedia your characters are literally "the one with purple hair" and "the one with slightly less purple hair" and "the gay one".

Beautiful work.

I also fail to understand why the production crew being union magically makes a show better. I get that leftoids love unions but have you ever actually worked in a union workplace? It's a shit show. Besides that it's not like the anime that Raye loves so much has union production either, sure the animators get treated like shit and commit suicide at alarming rates but the product is generally good.
Don't know which is worse, this awful show or all the subhuman weebs in this thread talking like these "people" committed a grave sin against "MUH SUPERIOR JAPANESE CULTURE".
Lmao.
Low effort desu famalam but here's your (you).
This Raye dude
>dude
Also, "Stop making fun of me wah" is a girl's reaction. Not a mature woman's, and certainly not a man's.
This is always going to be the funniest thing about Raye to me is that she so desperately wants to be a man but acts like a little boy.

Just when things slowed down in the thread and HGS came and was about to go, in comes Raye with the wrecking ball of cope and seethe.

Her attempt to bring down Onyx Equinox to her level of mediocrity is lulzy. I didn't watch it past episode 1 but a quick search reveals it did have a shoestring budget too. And despite that, the following happened:
  • It came out in 2020. A whole year before HGS did.
  • Had such a high demand that CR released the whole thing for fans to binge rather than wait for new eps every month.
  • It's coming to DVD/BluRay next month.
  • The creator was named Animation Mag's New Voice of the Year (which sounds like a participation trophy)
  • Got praised for its adult themes fitting in a violent time period and culture very well.
So two shows under the same anime service with the same budget that fills a coinpurse and had its staff unionized. One shined pretty well while the other didn't even sparkle. By the looks of it, Raye sounds like a salty bastard bitch to the point I wouldn't be surprised the mature themes in HGS were last minute add-ons to compete with OE.

That bit about "people HAVE to let me know the show sucks" has to be half true. Sure there's your typical share of autists and reviewfags who directly @ the creators/crewmembers on twatter when saying anything, but most of the harshest stuff I've seen were the people just saying their piece and moving on. And I know Raye is up his own ass enough to actively search his own fucking name or the show's name on twitter just to feel mad (if that 4chan thing is true).

Just the fact they were under the same label. Nothing more. Doesn't have to make in-universe sense. CN made crossovers for far less but they can afford to be goofy in their case. It's a good thing it didn't happen if Raye can be believed that both shows had shoestring budgets and crunched their poor employees out.

I disagree it didn't pick up SU's crowd though. The same people who liked SU are the same people who have lapped up every other expensive therapy session they call a children's cartoon in recent years. And just like the rest of them it failed miserably and lives on in memery.

A budget couldn't change that a pivotal moment in the show is one of her self inserts telling her other self insert about being trans.

Sweet Sally Struthers, her comparison just looks like she tossed out the clown wig and went full butch lesbo. Now that I think of it, his transness is just like him touting HGS as an anime. Raye tried so hard to sell a duck as a goose that he admits the goose is a duck in her bitchfit. (S)he's another walking talking case study for mental illness not being the key to better cartoons.

"please have empathy that the money that was meant for Japanese animators went to a group of trust fund gender weirdos to make a western cartoon" -Raye Rodriguez

Meanwhile $99 (per episode) budget anime made by japanese animators:
But fuck them I guess; they had a small budget and that's why it sucked. Couldn't be anything else, having to do with you or your writing staff making more work for them by having them build a story based on notepad scribbles. No sir. That'd be stupid.
Using the budget as an excuse for sucking is a baffling one.
Because like, I watched stuff like Digimon. That was pretty low on the budget scale and the staff knew they couldn't really match Pokemon's monster fights. What did it do? They focused on the writing, made the kids and villains have depth to them, and hey, it became a good show.

HGS, on the other hand, just feels like there was largely nothing in terms of unifying direction or leadership to it.
...I mean with the actual main plot and characters, not from the Professor Insert and the Glass Wrist Wimpy Kid.
Like I can cut some slack if it's for animation issues that the budget screwed them on since animation is a tricky process. However, to blame literally everything on the budget is retarded since there are cheaper shows out there that have better writing than High Guardian Spice. Hell writing should not be attributed to money issues as writing is dependent on the quality of the work compared to animation where it can be easy to screw up if the funds for it are low.
Lol shut up Raye, having a small budget doesn't excuse everything else wrong with your literal shitshow. HGS is objectively bad and you should feel bad.

Raye, since you clearly want yourself to be compared to other American cartoons, and you blame your "lack of budget" for your show sucking, I have two words for you: HAZBIN. HOTEL.
This was also made by one woman and a small team over a period of years, on a shoestring budget. Vivienne didn't even have the benefit of a major studio backing her, she had to release the ONE episode for free, on YouTube. Guess what the response was?
hazbin hotel.JPG

People loved it. And when you have a lot of eyeballs on something, some of those eyeballs might be, oh, I dunno, an actual studio:
a24 hazbin hotel.JPG

For all of Vivienne's faults (and trust me, she has quite a few), she actually created something that people enjoyed, enough to want to see it continue. Hell. she's even got a SIDE-SERIES running. When VIVIENNE. GODDAMN. MEDRANO. with NO STUDIO behind her, is a better animator/showrunner than you, you have failed more than is humanly possible to fail. You have epically failed.

TL;DR - Vivienne Medrano is the yang to Raye Rodriguez's yin. I dunno whether to find that hilarious or sad. Probably hilariously sad.

Felt like emphasizing it just a bit more because goddamn.

So which heroine do you look up to the most, Raye, Hikaru from Magic Knight Rayearth or Madoka from Madoka Magica? You really wanted to be a magical girl that badly, didn't you? Lots of little girls wanted to be like Sailor Moon or Sakura Avalon/Kinomoto, too, princess, you're not special for idolizing a magical girl. Warping Madoka into a mini-you is the most narcissistic you can ever do as an aspiring creator, however.

Disgusting.

I've been saying since the delays started I think Ryne was conned. That the diversity hires took the money and ran, to the point where I was expecting the show to never be released. I'd be interested in seeing if any producers or leads worked on both projects, or if they had massive salaries.

Castlevania being promoted as an anime (along with stuff like DOTA and Archane when they clearly aren't) is Netflix's fault. It surprises me that they didn't try promoting Voltron or Kevin Smith's He-Man series as anime, but that's another topic for elsewhere.
In the noughties we first started to see this with shows like Totally Spies and Avatar trying to cash in on the success of anime by copying the art style. Netflix is carrying on that tradition.

My real question is why did Crunchyroll even greenlight this series or Onyx Equinox in the first place. Was it to diversify their output? Crunchyroll has had lots of bad PR over the years from Interspecies Reviews to being bought by Sony, who also has some bad PR with censorship. Anime has always been "problematic" and doubly so since weeb wars. This is all a big virtue signal.

The other possibility is they don't want to fund anime, so are instead funding these Tumblr tier vanity projects and calling it "anime", unless that's inconvenient this week, in which case it's not anime.

TL;DR "We took the anime which was supposed to be for anime and used it to make Steven Universe but somehow fucking worse, we believed this clone was good and ambitious but we didn't have money to fix our mistakes so it ended up as a trash fire, also Nazies criticise our show, therefore, you cannot."

I feel like there was a difference audience intended for HGS, honestly when I first saw the trailer come out I 100% thought it was bait to cause a shitshow, and make it so people would watch it merely to see how bad it is, from the fact they delayed it until everyone forgot shows they genuinely expected a positive reaction.

There's a lot of inconsistencies in Raye's claims. Wasn't this show originally a webcomic? You made the original source material, so there's no excuse for the lack of writing. Speaking of which, where is the comic? Did Raye decide to scrap the original story and start all over again now that she decided to be a he? What about the advance you got for the show? Claiming it's downfall for being a non-anime show on an anime platform is stupid since RWBY was popular and there are "homages" to anime such as Madoka and the ending even rips off scenes from the Azumanga Daioh opening. Also, there are signs of her liking/hating boys so much that she decided to cosplay as one.

Rosemary was created in 2013, so there had to have been a story in mind and Raye thanks a Japanese artist as an influence for the character design:

Magic? At a MAGIC academy!? Get outta here with the nonsense, bro! Can't you see these kids are being taught only the important parts of being a magical high guardian, or whatever, by fighting tentacles with maces?
well I mean, there's something to be said for having weapons if something they're facing is weak against weapons or something that's magic-immune, but yeah, they do non-magical fighting in the worst possible way.

A nice little addendum to my post above:
vivzie thanks the team.JPG

Problematic, Unwoke Vivienne: Thanks so much to the people who've helped me get this far! You guys are the best! :heart-full:
Stronk Trans Queen Raye: IT'S NOT MY FAULT HGS SUCKED, IT WAS THE BUDGET, IT WAS CRUNCHYROLL, YOU GUYS ARE ALL NAZIS, REEEEEEEEEEEE

The complete disparity between the two is unreal.
