RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

I've skimmed through that edgelord fic series Ruby and Nora, where there's an insane amount of 2-D, Complete Monster-esque villains doing gratuitous dickery, shock value deaths, and where Cinder was just another of Salem's identities - and that fic kept the brattiness of both, without adding anything of value. Also, that series likes to portray most of their characters one way or another - noble, pure and good for this sinful earth that aligns with the author's political leanings, or malicious pure evil, with arbitrary bigotry stamped on their foreheads - with no middle ground or nuance whatsoever.
Holy crap, I was reading the TvTropes pages for this and holy crap. First off, TvTropes has an entire page dedicated to listing the sociopaths in this fan fic; I have legitimately never seen that before in my life. Second, the writer of this made all of the members of Team RWBY lesbians. What the fuck is with this fandom and making everybody lesbians? But this fic goes a step further than most; it made all of Team JNPR some form of LGBT too (Ren and Nora are bi, Jaune is gay, and Pyrrha is also a lesbian)! Like holy crap guys, you can cool it with that shit. You know how unlikely it is for all these characters to be gay lesbian or bisexual? Also Raven's bisexual for no reason and dated Tai and Summer at the same time, just to be a di...no, excuse me, because she was "bored and horny". And of course she's also in a relationship with Vernal, because why not. Also, Salem/Cinder is gay too, because why not. Also, the White Fang are raging homophobes, ordering gay members to kill their lovers, because I guess just making them a pro-faunus terrorist group wouldn't have made them evil enough.
Considering how they're still continuing a story that not a lot of people are invested in... I think the contrary.
Sunk cost fallacy.

Wait a minute. I thought the White Fang were "their kind of people", if you know what I mean.

Everything about the fic is best describe as "there's a lot of edge everywhere but I cannot see the point.". It doesn't really elicit anything negative for me the way FRWBY makes my blood boil as a writefag but that's probably because I find tryhard grimderp really hilarious and this fanfic is just the right amount of ridiculously horrible and horribly ridiculous writing.

Hi guys, I've been reading through the past several pages of the thread. I'm FRWBY's former composer and Raymond's former streaming partner. AMA
Is Celtic Phoenix as horribly obsessed with teenage lesbians as he appears to be, or does he just feel the need to court the RWBY audience since RWBY itself is obsessed with teenage lesbians.

First, I want to clarify I'm not here to indite the guy. I don't think he's malicious, just oblivious. But I want to share my experience of what it's like trying to be friends with and work on a project with someone in this fanbse.

The teenage lesbian obsession is absolutely real. The first time we directly spoke, I was confronting him over posting Lillie/Moon art in his discord. He apologized and explained that it's not a fetish, no, he's interested in the emotional aspect of teenage lesbian relationships, so it's fine. I don't think he's lying, either. When he was recording his V6 reactions, he was really put off by the existence of Jaune's sister as a normal, functional woman who just happens to be married to another normal, functional woman. He tried to explain why it made him uncomfortable, something about how it's too normal compared to the straight relationships or something. After knowing him for long enough, and reading that ridiculous book of his, I think it's more an obsession with supposed special traits of lesbian relationships you see in anime: purity, drama, loss of innocence, that sort of thing. It's odd.

His book is about these hyperdramatic relationships be believes are realistic, just unhealthy. This involves teen girls under 17 getting drunk and having sex and waking up sore the next morning. He does this twice in the novel. Also, one girl becomes a sniper in Iran, where, according to him, they speak Arabic. But I digress.

There's also definitely a regular yuri fetish there. We first met when I was 19, and he was 25. Once, in a stream, he admitted out loud he once had a crush on me. The issue is, during the time I've known him, I've been one of three things: a self-identified lesbian, in a relationship with a man, and in a relationship with a woman. So none of those options are a really good look on him. I'm amazed he admitted it, which goes back to my opening line of thinking he's just inept. I started to turn against him when I read that book, and realized how creepy and bad a writer he really was. I'd been learning from this dude for years, so that hurt.

I'd also been on the receiving end of plenty of inappropriate comments about my relationship. He's called my relationship a "real life coffeeshop AU", "lesbian domestic fluff," and compared it to his favorite Fire Emblem ship, which involved my favorite character and his favorite. Ew. He really just didn't get that I didn't want to be treated like that, and that lesbians aren't some special breed of human.

He even wishes he was BORN a lesbian.

When me and a couple other women finally confronted him about this, he told one of them he didn't think he could cut the lesbian obsession. He didn't understand why it was so unhealthy and off-putting, because to him, it's the same as being a fan of horror movies or foreign films, just a genre of media that someone takes interest in. Except even the best "shoujou-ai" (as he calls it) media is just anime girls flailing around and stammering like morons.

All his favorite shows are things like Little Witch Academia, Madoka Magica, and Wonder Egg Priority, which are all about teenage anime girls, the latter two putting big focus on the drama and angst. He kept trying to push "wholesome" fanart of ships on me, like Marnie/Gloria from Pokemon SwSh, even though I made it clear I didn't care for it. Once he did a writing prompt from a chat we had about a character having a head injury... he still made it about lesbians.

This is what happens when you get too wrapped up in your internet circles. You forget what's normal.

Holy crap. That's sounds like it was really uncomfortable for you and I'm sorry to hear that, though, I will admit, its hilarious for me. He's not exactly fujoshi bad (what's the term for someone obsessed with yuri, opposite of a fujoshi?), but that's getting there. I always felt he was a little too interested in the lesbian shit in RWBY, but I didn't realize how bad it got. Though I am interested in this part:
The issue is, during the time I've known him, I've been one of three things: a self-identified lesbian, in a relationship with a man, and in a relationship with a woman.
You might consider this a personal question, in which case feel free not to answer, but do you consider yourself bisexual now or still a lesbian? In any case, admitting he had a crush on you would have been inappropriate considering the circumstances, especially if you were with someone at the time.

Don't worry about it, I've found it better to laugh about than brood over. And yeah, it's the kind of ignorant obsession that will honestly hurt himself more than others. It's not a good look to be almost 30 and posting dozens (and I mean dozens: over 10,000 in three years) of pictures of anime girls to your server a day. Tone-deaf is the key term, it's like his fatal flaw. On a small scale, you can see it in his music choices, too. He doesn't quite get the emotion a song is trying to portray. For example, he wanted Roman's theme to be Ardyn's theme from FFXV, and I had to twist his arm to make my own song instead. He also was the one that made me add that weird fast part to Adam's song. I wanted to keep thigns slow and powerful, he wanted fast, because "Adam attacks fast." He also suggested I just make remixes of Final Fantasy music as "musical fanfiction." He told me, "how else will you improve?" Grr.
You might consider this a personal question, in which case feel free not to answer, but do you consider yourself bisexual now or still a lesbian? In any case, admitting he had a crush on you would have been inappropriate considering the circumstances, especially if you were with someone at the time.
It's something I actively try not to think about. I'm very anti-label. Either way, you're right, it's very inappropriate. When he admitted it on the stream, I'd been with my girlfriend for over a year. What would be very worrying is if he had the crush when he first met me or shortly after. Not because of my age, but because I hadn't shown my face, and was known to be abrasive. So the crush wouldn't have been my personality or looks, but just how I identified.

Now that's a new one on me. Never heard of someone being attracted to someone else's sexual identification before.
I went back and found the stream. His exact line is "I had a little bit of a crush on you, early on. I thought you were cool." We started talking in March 2018, I began dating my now-ex-boyfriend in January 2019, so it's likely he could've been referring to this time, where I very openly identified as lesbian...

Its always so wonderful to get a first person account of these lolcows. Even rarer is that its not from someone who is just as much a lolcow as the cow themselves.

With that said, I am overjoyed at this surprise. The obsession, ineptitude, lack of self awareness and general creepiness being revealed in its full glory is like finding $100 laying on the side of the street.

Honestly, V5 of Fixing RWBY has been a goldmine of wonder. And considering that whole volumes and responses can go for hours at a time, I’m not too sure I wanna know how far this rabbit hole goes. But this Discord must be filled with “fun”stories.

Moving on to another question: does he have a raging stiffy for Torchwick as everyone suggests?

Huh, not having firsthand knowledge of FRWBY I don't want to really say anything but boy does that explain some stuff I've heard. I'll admit that I'm also a big fan of yuri, and I certainly was interested in some ships in RWBY, so I'd be hypocritical just for decrying anyone over that. And I was always surprised by the fact that considering RWBY was made by Monty Oum it didn't have more blatant yuri/lesbians in it right out of the gate. But there's a way to enjoy something and not be, you know, autistic about it like Celtic seems to be.

Also have to know what's up with the Torchwick obsession?

Okay that's just weird.

Moving on to another question: does he have a raging stiffy for Torchwick as everyone suggests?
I'd say so. I think Skipjack is right about the cosplay picture, as well as his attitude. Often, his social mishaps stem from his need to be quippy, always, like he just can't have a normal response to things. He's blunt, abrasive, and likes to rub in that other's need to deal with it should they feel bad, because he also sees himself as a mentor. Maybe that's why he made Roman into Ozpin's host. Best of both words.
Example: I was feeling down about my music. Usually, a friend's response would be "don't say that, you're talented, don't be hard on yourself" etc. Raymond?

I don't have evidence of him like, gushing over Roman. I think he's just attached for self-insert reasons.

Of course, I'm not going to get on someone's case for liking yuri, that would be ridiculous. But I'm also sure you don't discuss it like you're talking about the local sports team, like it's something you can just bring up whenever.

The discord itself, known as the Tundra, is absolutely wild because it's exactly the kind of audience you'd expect for someone whose main draw is that they critique children's cartoons. There's plenty of fun characters in there, but it wouldn't be kind of me to get into it, since it's not like they've done anything. Fatman's posted loli porn tho.

Glad I could make your day, and relieved I've eluded the lolcow title.

You know l, if V5 is any indication, I think Fixing RWBY is working on trying to get added to the OP. But that’d mean having to watch all the other videos and response streams to see if this fireworks display was a sudden thing thanks to V5 or was a long time in the making. And I’m not super into going back and digging at the moment.
