It seems like there is also some theory that Putin is trying to destabilize Ukraine through the appearance of an incoming conflict.

Ukraine is currently one, if not the most, poor country in Europe. Coupled with the fact that the president Zeminsky has lower approval than Kamala Harris and being rocked even worse than inflation than Turkey, Ukraine is feeling extremely nervous about destabilization, especially with US/ NATO forces pulling out ambassadors. They are having problems with loans to import stuff they need because of an appearance of imminent war, which also ties into its net trade deficit. Also, because of this escalation, it needs to take people away from their jobs to work, motivating the downward spiral in their economy. Economists are thinking Ukraine will default, breaking down its banking system and in turn would excerbate inflation to hyperinflation levels. And then collapse where the Russians can just take over and install an anti-NATO president on the guise of local aid.

So essentially, Ukraine can very much collapse while Russia doesn't need to fire a shot and take over. They still can go to conflict if someone does something stupid however.

Meanwhile, China is openly doing massive flyovers over Taiwan in a coordinated move with Russia since the West is occupied, while mobilizing in their sea.

Keep in mind we only give a picoshit about Ukraine to spite Russia. Taiwan on the other hand makes the most advanced chipsets in the world. They are an immeasurably more important asset.

I think if either starts an assault, it would lead to the other to begin theirs. Allies rush to aid each respective side, and potential for another global conflict.

God hopes it doesn't come to that.

that's because putin knew trump would take such a situation as an insult to his manhood, he would start yelling and throwing things, would openly threaten russia with destruction if they decided to fuck around and find out, and wouldn't back down

putin saw in syria that obama was ambivalent at best about stepping on moscow's toes. trump got into office and made it very clear, with his syria policy, that he would stomp on moscow's toes if necessary. so instead of russia pressing the US, for four years we had mutual respect for each other's strength and a clear desire on both sides not to press the other (other than playing games with electronic warfare against each other in syria, and occasional oopsies like russian mercenaries deciding to attack an american outpost and getting creamed by airstrikes)

obama third term starts and putin bet that the weakness and ambivalence was back, and boy was he right

for fuck's sake the US handled this exact situation multiple times in the cold war by making it plain from the very start of a crisis that if the USSR or Red China went after taiwan or west berlin or wherever for real, it meant WW3. period. they never did

putin does not want a war with the united states. he wants that about as much as he wants pegged on live TV by the members of pussy riot. if he thought war with the united states were a possible outcome he never would have started this little game. he knows that Unca Joe and his Obama JV team don't have the balls to make credible threats of war. so he presses. and presses. and presses.

Sieg was kind of a notorious poster that made specific threats(time and place, enough for Glowies to ignore credible threats of a useful school shooter to investigate) to shoot up a lefty rally as a joke. Got banned for it, unbanned after it went nowhere, them banned for good again for his typical behavior. This is all iirc and IMHO and might not be completely accurate.

Maybe. No one wants a war, but there really is no problem from constant little skirmishes and adventuring. Everyone thinks a tiny bit of border dispute looting is a really good time, apparently. Dunno why, Ukraine seems pretty gay and terrible.

There is a saying, attributed to various German generals and paraphrased multiple times, that there are four types of men. There are the stupid and lazy: useless, but ultimately harmless. There are the intelligent and ambitious: they make good middle managers. There are the intelligent and lazy: they are worthy of the highest leadership positions. Finally, there are the stupid and ambitious: they must be kept as far away as possible from anything important, because they are dangerous.

It is clear that Joe Biden is the final type in that list.

Why would Putin want to engage the US in anything military?

He can just sit back and watch the whole fucking country burn down while the same kind of dissidents he'd put against a wall and shoot loudly clamor for and advocate for (NOT REAL)Communism(TM) and act like America's the worst country in the world when it's one of the few countries they're tolerated.

IIRC Fuckyou got caught in the bathroom with his pants down and while he was righting himself again, whatever kid saw him was able to tell an adult and then the adult was smart enough to blockade the door with a couch.

Then Null put a couch in the footer of the website to protect us. If you dig up the date I'm sure you can find our safety couch archived somewhere.

How nostalgic. I don't think I even had an account back then.
