What else would you suggest when someone cannot even breathe? I guess the only option would be a different kind of ventilation like negative pressure ventilation. Apparently it was a lot more popular in the polio days and is less likely to damage and weaken the lungs and cause infections. There was actually a little group trying to 3d print home use negative pressure ventilator vests, which started at the beginning of the pandemic when there was a severe lack of ventilators.
