This was always Lewis's selling point- him not saying words like "fuck", "shit" or their derivatives. Yeah, it gets annoying when those words are overused, but for fuck's sake, they're not like the plague. USE THEM! No one's stopping you.
Also as I said in my review, about the space station's set, just because you point out that it's an obvious living room set, then tell the character who complains about it to accept it. Doesn't mean it makes it any better. If anything, it makes it worse because you just did a needless bout of (unfunny) meta humor, which could have been avoided if you had bothered to hire a fucking set designer. Even To Boldly Flee had an excuse as to why its spaceship's interior looked like someone's house. What's this movie's? Oh right, they don't bother to explain it outside of that one "joke". It's sad when even Lewis fails at exposition, and that's not something that you can fail easily.
And good point about the Cybermats. This was a problem in the series itself. At least with things like the morphers and Pyramidhead, they were used in a mocking sort of manner (kinda-sorta-not really). The Cybermats and other Dr. Who references, not so much. I'm legit surprised BBC hasn't sued his ass yet.
