And it seems some people want to go back to that.
Tbh I miss the text only Internet. The level of intelligence was way higher then. Even the crazy idiots were smarter because of needing some tech knowledge even to use it at all and the fact that most people who had it were academics of some sort. Now even people in the various useless Retard Studies majors can phonepost every dumbass hot take they have.

Usenet was okay for talking about nerd subjects like that, but early Internet didn't really have the bandwidth to transmit quality video. So what little there was was low resolution rips of VHS tapes that would generally take a ridiculous amount of time to download and look like shit if you even managed to find it on some dodgy ftp server.
Uh, zoomer? There were these things called conventions and this system called the postal service that were used for tape trading. In 1992 some usenet dwelling otaku was not downloading video. It wasn't until the late 90s/early 2000s you had bandwidth that allowed for easy (and slow) downloading of video and PCs that could decode it. And by that time usenet was deprecated for online discussion in lieu of traditional forums.

And it seems some people want to go back to that.
I’ve noticed in the past few days to almost a week where more fan based anime and manga sites have reported on more instances on manga piracy being more popular than digital manga sales.

It was just over a year ago where anime being pirated on clone sites like kissanime and GOGOANIME were the talk of the town. It might not be the 2000’s anymore, but it seems like it’s headed into that direction, even in this new technological age we’re living in.

Lmao what the fuck are you talking about?

And what do you have to do for that genius? Go outside. Actually know other people's physical addresses. Go to anime club or whatever. I've never been big on conventions of any sort.

Your age and the way you describe how people engaged with other online on a 28k modem is almost completely anachronistic.

No need seethe, and anyone can "show for that" by just digging around the usenet archives about what fans did get their weeb toon fix back in 1995. And that involved trading tapes in person at a con or putting in an order for a tape and paying the shipping/handling yourself and sending a self addressed stamp. You weren't downloading shit.

Just giving you a history lesson so you won't sound so uniformed if you talk about this stuff elsewhere, kid.

Nevermind, a 2021 join date, should have noticed and known not to bother.

@I Love Beef

You didn't rip Caitlin open a good one? Disappointing. Anyways, welcome back to the Farms
Caitlin who?

Oh, the reviewer?

"Do onto others what you wish to be done to you".

Essentially I'm treating them as they have done to anime they don't like out of ego and bias, if not what they want out of anime like a bunch of spoiled first world manchildren. Besides, the more I beat on their dead golden cow with legitimate weight, the more pain that causes them all.

She's a fucking nobody as far as I'm concerned. She can jump into Zac's grave and sleep in it for a dirt nap for all I care. All of his hardcore dicksucking wannabees can.

thanks for the recommendation to trash her too though will try

Look, I think we can all agree that the whole campaign of importers and localizers, as well as in house production committees for online streaming services have gotten high off their ass from the pop nerd craze and "social justice moral crusading" of the 2010s and crave the money and attention more than the artistry, cultivation of talent, and maintaining a sustainable industry in regards to animation or comics or video games and what not. No one is buying their shit, both figuratively and literally. I like that the fans are realizing or have long realized this horseshit and have gone back to the time honored American tradition of going hardcore underground and scouring the web like turn of the Second Millennium AD anime fans. It means that fans still don't like the interfering fuckery of censorship, whatever its form may be. That doesn't make me throw myself into despair about humanity.

Personally, despite a crowd of people who only like anime for its visuals and community than anything that comprises it, those are the trendchasers and fleeting whims that will go whereever the trends go. If anything, I'm glad that time has taught me the reasons why that things are the way they are, being that anime is strictly associated with Japan. Imagine anime catering to the western PC crowd, you know, the crowd that once thought to replace Santa Claus and advocates Happy Holidays as the only slogan to celebrate end of the year festivities instead of a choice. That would be some fuck.

Usenet, hard copy in person merchandise attainment, torrenting, either way, as I say to the posers, postures, and proclaimers..... Look who's actually supporting the creators now, you lying assholes?

Hey, I'm just giving @AnOminous some corrections because there's enough people online these days pining for the good old days while in turn saying completely inaccurate shit about those times ("downloading" anime in the days of dailup, "torrenting/piracy" killing the physical market, whining about "digital and CG shit" when anime's been using digipaint since the late 90s). Call me a sperg, but you can't act like a historian if your history's wrong.

Anime just needs to be less accessible. Make it uncool, make more shit normalfags don't want to be associated with (more violence, more sexual content. If that's "cringe", then leave), make piracy the default method of acquisition besides importing Japanese merch (or have it sold locally at stupid high Jap prices).

All but the highest-quality CG stuff is inferior to mediocre, generic 90s animation, let alone the majority of it. What a pleb take.

Too many normies like that though, except maybe the most out there shit from the 80s. No, the REAL way to make anime uncool while keeping it making money and TV safe for Japanese audiences is to make more moe anime and CGDCT. ANN HATES it, because it's not gay enough for the fagflag crowd but in their perverse minds it sexualizes underage girls so is therefore bad. Normies hate it too because they can't make cool memes to show their friends of Naruto or some faggy isekai protag being a badass or whatever.

Fact is that when CGDCT was more dominant in the anime market back in the early 10s, foreign sales DECLINED because gaijin thought it was boring and dumb. Of course, it didn't matter since the shows were cheaper to make and sold merchandise like crazy. We need to bring back that era and make it permanent so Zac Bertsky can power the energy grid with the gnashing of his teeth from beyond the grave.

I ditto this. Even my clause of how if fans out in the States want things in their anime they want to see, they don't just need to work their ass off for it, but have it rooted and grown in the same environment that overseas anime fan culture thrives upon: underground, or at least away from the grubby hands of bloated mainstream homogenizing bastardization of current day Hollywood and its media industry complex, and still kept true to its core essence as Japanese media, be it inspired in this case. With how the world outside really is, yeah, until someone else steps up to the plate and dares to put in the work and place their ass on the line and dare compete with actual weight behind them, as far as our voices are concerned, Japan can do anything it fucking wants with its anime and make the final say, no exceptions, and they shouldn't fucking care until everyone else is assed to haul ass.

I'm down with CGDCT. I'm down with more moe. Netflix and Crunchyroll are total clueless dipshits that aren't realizing that animation requires that kind of hardcore devotion and focus, and yes, I am for bettering the quality of life for animators in Japan, but I trust their social movements and organizations more than bullshit campaigns with pathetic lies and false promises by foreign corporate string pullers and foreigner run deceitful agencies with agendas of their own, that can't man the fuck up and actually prove with actual results, let alone make any. I don't even trust the idea of American anime right now either, because with how fucking pussyfoot and anal retentive the political, social, and cultural climate is, until someone actually has some fucking gall and balls to not fucking care, it's going to turn out like the same disappointing calarts and amerime shit but with a more deceptive coating. Anime right now should be about CGDCT and moe because until some flicker of some random cause of human agency, everyone else is showing some fucking fucky alternatives powered by lackluster horseshit.

I am in agreement with this, the only risk is the troons may try to co-opt moe into their folds, I will not let them have this!
But in seriousness, this won't work.

There are too many stupid committee heads that can only think of the right here and now, and since Netflix and the like, front end the payment, they are only thinking of that immediate, safe, gain and not the riskier, yet better payout, of merch sales.

It doesn't help that the likes of ANN try to spin that as a positive.

Well, don't host it on your site, ANN. Last one you had, the main host drank himself to death. That's blood on your hands, btw. I believe in that curse you got hanging around you.

Even that's a hang up I can get over, CGI in anime. So when RWBY uses it, it's okay, but if Japan uses it, that's a nono. Motherfuckers, Ghost in the Shell called, it said fuck you.

Because I can actually use more than 30% of my brain this time, I'm totally okay with just about everything on the spectrum of old OAVs to moe CGDCT. Anime should just go all out in portraying everything about the human condition, and I don't just mean everything nice but everything lurid and odd and fucked up like it did with the OAVs of old. With everything I've read and studied about in history, from how barbarian mercenaries in the Pelopennesian War killed everything in sight, like from kids to women, how there was a Viking child who tasted his first instance of combat by killing another of his peers, and everything about the Children's Crusades, to how many of them in the end died drowning, by wild animals, or were sold into slavery, if war didn't catch them, put that in pipes and let them smoke it. I would warmly welcome all of this to totally shatter the safe space fuckery of poser weeaboo fandom.

There's a comment in the post on ann about the podcast. One person says Vic had a meltdown at a Cheesecake Factory?
"OMFGVICMICNOOGETSGAVESOMEONEAFUCKINGHUGWITHCONSENTANDSMILEDHEWISHEDTHEMAGOODFUCKINGDAYITWASDISGUSTINGBECAUSEHEDIDNTLIKESEEINGSHOTAYAOISOIMADEUPSOMETHINGSOMETHINGSOMETHINGABOUTHIMSPROUTINGTENTACLESFROMHISBACK!"

Never thought I'd see the day where ANN sounded like a bunch of Julie Terryberry posters. Then again, all the users are privileged little shits who did nothing with their lives so they need to write terrible fanfiction about some gay pants boomer because they don't know how human interaction works.

But whats the CF story

Nah, it's just pointless. There is basically never a time CGI works better than traditional animation. Like compare Macross Frontier to Gundam 00. Same era, but Gundam 00 looks a hell of a lot better because it uses traditional animation in the fights. There's a lot of shows that extensively use CGI for fights and what not that I enjoy, and I won't say all CGI is terrible, but it's blatantly inferior at best.

Never watched RWBY but I know it's fanbase looks godawful and Rooster Tooth is a lolcow company so who cares.
