EDIT: My opinion is gay and not fully informed. I based my point on the tinfoil theory of a ground-up engineered weapon rather than the more realistic scenario of a chimera with a modified spike protein sequence, that is an entirely realistic (even likely based on what I've read since) theory. I still stand by my second point that this was an accident that the CCP have leveraged to both end the HK demonstrations and stop themselves being the only economic victim. Sorry for being a dumb fag, and thanks for telling me I was being one.

I wanna jump in on point 1 cos I think it's one step away from the (potential) truth and is too easily dismissed out of hand. The odds of the virus being manmade are incredibly low, minor powerlevel but I've studied microbiology and gen-eng (actual, college degree studied); we don't have the technology at present to develop something of this sort, and even if we did there'd be obvious markers that it was manmade. Assuming the technology to develop SARS-Cov-19 does exist there are a million better things you could do with this knowledge, nefarious or benevolent.

What I believe to be much more likely is that the virus had been discovered well before the outbreak (note, there's a virology lab in Wuhan), and it was accidentally or intentionally spread from there due to a lapse in procedure. The CCP then intentionally bungled their response for two reasons:
1. New spooky bug lets them shut down the HK protests.
2. If the entire world gets infected as opposed to just China, they stop themselves from being the only economic victim of the epidemic.

The wuhan lab in question does gain of function research for novel coronaviruses. Thats a little on the nose for this whole thing dont you think?

I am a layman. But your reasoning seems flawed. You say we don't have the technology, but that depends on the knowledge of that technology being public knowledge, which isn't a necessity.

Second you presume that if the technology does exist, that it would allow things very powerful of which there apparently is no evidence. For that I have two follow up questions:
1. What kind of irresistable uses would it allow which would and/or could not have been kept under wraps?
2. Why are you sure what the technology would allow without having it? This may have been one of those situations where they bumbled/stumbled forward without full understanding everything of the why or even without being able to repproduce the effect reliably. So what makes you sure of the (lack of) limitations of this theoretical tech?

You're right, sorry I should have been more clear. I've been too exposed to the crackpot bioweapon theory and tend to laser in on that. The technology to develop something like the rona as a bioweapon from the ground up doesn't exist. I've been out of the loop on the newer theories so had to take a minute to do some more reading. Disregard my points on the broader implications of such tech, they're irrelevant and I'm a dumbshit.

I'll correct myself now because I have been a peanut brain: it's a definite possibility that specifically the spike-protein mutation which allowed the virus to infect humans came from the Wuhan lab, BUT this would have been done for research reasons and I don't believe it was released on purpose.

I stand by my original points as to the why and how, but will happily concede that the mutation which allows SARS-Cov-2 to infect humans could very well have been engineered, that's within the scope of both modern tech and the Wuhan lab. I will also say though that this mutation, if it were engineered, was not produced for outwardly malicious reasons (i.e. not a bioweapon).

Forgive me for not doing my due diligence before opening my mouth.
