Word. He’s a combination of Public Display of Fetish and Academic justification of Boner. Nothing novel or unique about either one. Fifty years ago, he’d have been jerking off on the subway under a trench coat, then going home to write a letter to the editor about it.
The main difference between Joe and the subway masturbator is that the latter never claimed to be a woman, or god forbid a feminist, or that he was a woman BECAUSE he liked jerking off in public. You know, I think I am going to skip even reading that review. I am all here for Joe as a lolcow, but diving too far into his mind is like lying down on the floor of a gas station bathroom. And I say that as a degenerate myself. It's not just that he's a degenerate, it's that his degeneracy is simultaneously so cringey that just thinking about it will harsh my own degenerate vibe.
But I did want to comment on the fact that his quick reply to her tweet shows that he is obsessively searching his own name lol
One thing I have noticed about very political twitter TRAs (not so much the random AGPs who are just on there for the coom) is that it's really set up specifically as a youth movement, to the extent that TRAs in their thirties are already displaying extreme "boomer dad trying to fit in with the kids" traits. It really sunk in for me when I saw a picture of Laurie Penny recently: I had never bothered to click on her Twitter avatar, and I thought she was in her late 50's, because everything she wrote gave off such strong "how do you do fellow kids? I'm cool too!!" vibes. But she's only 35.
Penny is a "feminist" writer and Joe is a professor, and they are both in their thirties: they should be at the height of their careers and still drowning in cultural capital. Instead they hitched their wagon to a movement that sees them as hopelessly over the hill already.
I'm not sure where I am going with this. But you're right that in ten years there will be a new youth cohort that will think that Gen Z is lame and want to distinguish itself by doing something else. Especially when you consider that the long-term optics of troonery are not a great selling point. Medical complications keep piling up, cross-sex hormones age you like a President, and the teenage girls of even 5 years from now will probably not be particularly enamored by all the balding 27-year-old FtMs getting sepsis from their fleshtube peens and hooked on opioids because of the scarred nerves in their forearms. The kids will move on to something new, as kids always do.

...you can read it as misogyny—or in my probably way more accurate reading, you can read it as the tweet of a man who probably had the most basic of vanilla missionary sex in their 20s, started suffering from early-onset ED in their early 30s, trooned out in a desperate attempt to find any passively satisfying sexual identity, and is completely unfamiliar with what actual kink, real-life interesting sex, or anything that would make a nun blush feels like acted out in the flesh.

I think that Laurie Penny is cut from a very similar cloth as Mallory.
She used to date an autogynephilic hobo who uses the pen-name "Margaret Kiljoy". I found out about him after he caused a rather ferocious cloud of BO at a sci-fi convention I attended. Laurie Penny was way more successful than him (she was touted as the voice of Occupy, he was a literal train-hopping hobo) so I think he tried to sabotage her with an awful relationship while he ran around in his nan's nightie (there are pics on this website). Soon after, she started identifying as "totally not a woman you guys", even after marrying a cis het white male (best of luck to him). She wrote a laughable essay about it, explaining that pair-bonding wasn't a basic human urge, but was instead something uncool and lame, except when she did it of course, because she is very special. If you can't even call yourself a woman without getting flustered, you don't get to call yourself a feminist. I fear that both her and Mallory are going to have unhappy endings. Laurie never actually got surgery so she'll probably fair better. Wonder where she'll be in 20 years.
