That's... bad. You know how the Ambassador Bridge takes 10,000+ trucks a day? Emerson takes more trucks.

As of 2011 (so 11 years out of date, the current figure is probably equal or higher) $16.9 billion in truck trade value passes through that crossing every year. The government is lucky in that this crossing isn't a geographic chokepoint nor is it located near any, but this is an economic threat on par with the Ambassador Bridge.

I'm seeing rumours of a Fort Erie ON-Buffalo NY Peace Bridge blockade happening on Sunday as well. News reporting it as just a protest tho (also another Sarnia one?):
wuh oh.PNG
this is getting prettttttyy big lol

Couple more Emerson MB vids:

Does Canada have easy libel laws like the UK? Asking because couldn't Canadians sue media that labels them right wing extremists and other dubious claims? It's absurd that they can get away with flippantly calling someone that and literally making up stories about how the protests are funded by right wing groups. These are real people that could have their reputation tanked and their financial futures ruined because of these bullshit claims.
No. The answer is no. The laws function similarly to the US. The fact that they are in public in such a setting that is drawing national and international attention from media, it can make them what the law calls (paraphrasing) limited public figures. While they aren't celebrities or politicians, they had 15 minutes of fame so to speak. Opening yourself up to public opinion is a great way to make a libel suit unwinnable. It can be argued that their beliefs are indeed far-right, their actions are indeed extreme, and are indeed causing terror. It would be hard to argue against that in court, especially if said court is in Ottawa. It would also be difficult to say it damaged their reputation because they are already open about their beliefs, values, and what they are doing. I'm sure the media's lawyers could handle it anyway. I can't imagine how many libel suits media companies receive per day.
Not a Leaf, but I think Libel is hard to prove in court. In the US, for there to be any grounds for libel/slander/defamation, there has to be (I quote SCOTUS) "blatant disregard for the truth". The offending party has to know full well that what they're saying is bullshit, and yet they say it anyway out of malice. (And as we all know, that's way 11 out of 10 journos do as easily as they breathe).

Sadly, the courts and the journoswine are often on the same team.
Nigger, this is at least the second time you’ve posted straight-up bullshit. Canada is its own country. Stop trying to extrapolate things based on what other countries do. If you don’t know the answer just shut the fuck up.
You didn't even really answer the question you quoted and said some vague shit so I'm not surprised you're getting shot the fuck up by George. It's well known that libel includes malice and provably false statements. The difference is that the roles are flipped in the UK, and the burden of proof is on the defendant instead of the plaintiff, making the cases function completely differently. Canada also has greater protections against frivolous lawsuits than the US, meaning weak claims of libel won't even get looked at.

You guys underestimate the power and numbers of the zombified masses. They are not on your side, they hate this trucker protest and when it becomes umacceptable they will flip the switch and you will lose.

The only reason it has been allowed to continue is because it recruits more zombies. They let you get your hopes up while using your happiness to prove their case to the faithful; then they will crush you and turn a few more into zombies. It might not be this one and it might not be the next one, but eventully they'll break you and you will be happy with their misery.

Trudeau could order a crackdown not seen for a long time in the western world, problem is that any remaining moral high ground left evaporates over China and Russia.
Yeeeeah but no. Most of Canada’s guns are in the hands of the peaceful protestors’ demographic. And slaughtering truckers would set off very bad things. Very bad.

Apparently there's a trucker exposing his erect penis and making the thumb across the throat motion to BIPOC women outside of the Canadian nature museum. I went ahead and reported it. I hope nobody else runs into this mad flasher.

Be careful how you joke. The same media that has been lying about the convoy will take your joke and make it into reality for their horde to consume.

Canada is starting to look more and more like a country under siege now.
I have to disagree, I get the sentiment, but I have to disagree. Canada isn't under siege. A siege is an act of aggression. This is liberation through refusal to continue allowing the government to step all over good people. You aren't sieging the cage someone triess to put you in when you attempt a breakout. The canadian government wanted to make the whole nation a cage and its citizens, the prisoners. This is liberation, this is self-defense of citizens inalienable rights.
