What's going to happen is suddenly, these truckers are going to be facing Emergency measure trumped up new laws and charges that will have fines in the range of $10k-100k.

And if the protestors come up with the money, the government is going to sic every forensic accountant and tax agent on them to sniff through all their financials to find where the money came from.

And if even a cent of it can be linked to the GiveSendGo, boom: the withdrawn funds are seized, the individuals involved are brought up on additional charges for violating the order, and the fines remain unpaid because the withdrawn money is seized. This is how the Ontario/Canadian government is going to try to legally wreck the protestors.

And if the protestors do an amazing job of concealing the fact that the money came from the givesendgo? Well, unless they somehow launder it, then they'll just get hit for massive tax evasion charges, Capone-style.

Hopefully the organizations have used a good portion of the original Million to hire some top notch legal council and accountants on their side, because Ford is setting up a legal deathtrap for the protestors right now.

Ford refused to answer a direct question about whether the police would be using force. He deflected by saying he does not control the police, but then went on a several minute rant about how necessary it was to keep American facotries open. He also admitted that for as many truckers as there were, there were far more regular folk supporting the protest.

Probably because the cops won't be using force, no appetite to do that. As @Cold Root Beer mentions they'll try threats and hand twisting instead, but given the current state of things not sure how effective that'll be. A lot of the protestors expected something like this and prepared for it, and if you cannot scare them off with it, you're right back at square one.

It is insane just how braindead & authoritarian Doug Ford's response was.
All you have to do is wash your hands of these mandates (that you say you're already getting rid of) and tell people they can go home, job's done. Even if you say it'll be done in a week due to pencil-pushing & general bureaucracy I'm sure that would have been more effective at removing people than putting in emergency powers & PROMISING TO MAKE THOSE POWERS INTO LAWS.

It's really sad there are going to be persecuted political dissidents in western democracies but that is the path our fearless leaders chose. They wanted to be like the CCP with overweening central control, but they didn't want the downsides that came with that. Mainly that everyone in your country will hate you and need to be kept in line by an increasingly massive, expensive, and overly powerful security apparatus.
