Important to expand on something you touch upon here: It is not "just" a matter of public infrastructure rotting away. Under Justin Trudeau, Canada's capital stock has started shrinking. Existing investments are depreciating, and investors are either getting squeezed so hard in terms of taxes and regulations that they cannot afford to put money back in at the rate that assets are depreciating, or they see the writing on the wall and they're opting to invest their money abroad. The private sector is rotting away, which is a much deeper crisis than public infrastructure. Our Dear Leaders will never be able to fund public spending if they kill the golden goose. Sometimes they may like to pretend they're not strangling everyone, with money printing type fuckery instead of just jacking up taxes, but it's all the same bullshit in the long run.
