I stumbled upon an interview on February 8 from the CBC basically talking about children welfare. A female convoy rep also released her very loud condemnation of the CBC. There's another video of a trucker basically confronting another reporter asking if his kids are in danger.

Any action against kids by the government will lead to violence. Even one trucker losing his shit can probably kill dozens (see Germany Christmas parade terrorist attack) The police can't carry out violence against the protesters with kids there. Seriously the truckers really do have the cops by the balls here.

Maybe the government should respect peaceful protests and calm the rhetoric.

The government is doing everything to try and bait a response. This is straight up “do you have your affairs in order?” which should have been done before this whole thing started.
