Annihilation is one of my very favorite movies of the 2010s. sometimes when people have truly unhinged interpretations about media i really love, i have to wonder for a second if i seriously misunderstood what i was consuming. eg “The Witcher is about how racism is good”, “everyone in LOTR is actually gay”, and now “Annihilation is a transgender metaphor.” unless of course it is based on a literal, face-value interpretation of the film, which is “a bunch of suffering people attempt to invade and understand something beyond their comprehension, their bodies change in frightening ways, and then they all die.” honestly the FtM insistence that “Dune is a transgender metaphor” that popped up in obscure internet places after the movie came out makes slightly more sense than this interpretation of Annihilation. i think ol’ lies just saw a really good movie that was about female characters and couldn’t resist trying to shove his mile wide shoulders in where they don’t belong. no matter what the plot is or the intended subtext or symbolic interpretations, if it has an almost entirely female cast it must be about him.View attachment 2985539
Insight into the Chubeverse anyone? Just looked up and remembered what film he means, smh, whatever.
I guess he just thinks he’s way more deep than his obsessive outgroup The Cis, but I’m not trying to rewatch that again with this in mind to draw anything further from it.
