You forget what some rich parents do to “teach kids the value of hard work.” Gura is so familiar with the Disney world Vacation Club Resorts that she would have had to go every year of her life. She was outraged people didn’t recognize mermaid purses. She enunciates a semi-affected mid-Atlantic accent in a way that is almost unheard out outside of educated New England circles. She makes byzantine references to obscure vaudeville routines like talking about being hit “in the labonza”, references she would never have been exposed to without worldly educated cosmopolitan older relatives. I don’t know why people want to pretend there is some doubt about this, but Gura is definitely, without a doubt, a Nantucket Masshole, and it’s literally part of her charm.

My two cents as a mostly-lifetime New Englander is that yes, Gura has certain verbal cues that mark her as a probable resident of this area at some point in her lifetime. But as a onetime resident of both the south and the midwest (ew), I can also pick out the occasional drawl that slips out as well. All this means is that she has moved at some point in her life, perhaps even more than once. My wife has also lived in several US states during her lifetime, all over places both north and south. She also has an accent that sometimes comes and goes, depending on who she talks to or even what she talks about.

Point being is that we can theorize about it all day and get nowhere. Gura isn't dumb by any stretch of the imagination (well, maybe the math bit is real), and she absolutely knows people wish they knew more about her and scour her every comment for clues. She's been doing this internet-savvy troll gremlin thing for a while. Barring any obvious fuckups, I think her ass is mostly covered for the time being.

Now if someone were to uncover Subaru's details, that would be truly crazy.

I understand that the trash taste crew is kind of divisive in vtuber circles, but there is no reason to think they would ever do that to Karen. They seem like they’re generally decent people who look out for each other and have a good time. I think their friendship with her is genuine, and I’ve never seen anything to make me question it. I admit I’m not a Syd fan, but I don’t doubt she genuinely likes Karen. I think it’s good for her to have new friends and get over the shitheels who didn’t like being surpassed by her, especially that Thomas the Tank Engine rapper she is so obsessed with.

I still don't trust those guys to stick around ones she is out of hololive or even before that if they don't need her anymore. I get that she has hard time with holo members because none of the EN members live in Japan so hanging out with them is hard with time zones and with JP members she is too insecure about her Japanese skills. But I hope Lui(she seems to get along with Mori a lot) pulls her from the gutter she is in right now. I fucking hate being a concerned of woman I will never meet.

Bruh, you realize that they don’t NEED to mooch off of her popularity, right? Gigguk and Anime Man are literally the two biggest anitubers, and their podcast pulls in more than $50k a month. If there’s anyone she can trust to not just be friendly because they want to ride her coattails, it’s people who are already at a similar level of e-fame and success themselves. If they’ve started hanging out with her IRL, it’s because they genuinely like Karen the person, not because they feel like they have something to gain from cozying up to Calliope the vtuber.

In my opinion, it's kind of sad that the members have had to be stripped of their 'identity' but I've always found them to be stupid anyway. I mean HoloID mostly speak English or Japanese, NijiKR mostly speak Japanese on YouTube (and then do Korean streams on Twitch). NijiID was the only one that actually pandered their intended market, but given that they all speak English, Japanese, or both, I kind of feel like these branches are just generally redundant Pre-2020 expansion attempts - especially when both companies released EN branches full of polyglots.

I am not up to date on my nijisanji ID, but from the top of my head:
Taka Radjiman: can speak English well enough
Hana Macchia: bilingual
Miyu: I've heard her sing in English and say some stuff but she's ID primarily
Layla: can somewhat use English
Bonnivier: can speak English well enough
Derem: can speak English well enough, primarily ID

That's about it, I don't know if past wave 5 they got more bilingual, but everyone else streams exclusively in Indo.

They really should have merged ID with EN. The ID group is pointless to have since EN and it does act as a debuff in a way (this is especially seen with Hololive).

If Millie can do Tagalog streams where she keeps on accidentally bringing up Lyrica, ID could have still done occasional Indonesian streams too.

They can't touch EN. I'm very thankful that NijiEN have been given a loose leash and still be as successful as they are, but piling 20+ members on top of Wave 5 in the space of 2 months would be way, way too much. The EN brand has to be protected at least somewhat.

In general I think this decision is the best. Apparently there are job hirings for Japan-based Indo and Korean speakers at Anycolor, so they obviously have plans in the wings for them.

On top of that, overseas expansion into specific territories just isn't feasible anymore. HoloID is mostly non-ID fans and they're the most 'successful' example by numbers. Kiara isn't a successful Korean V-Tuber because she got a huge influx of KR viewers. It's the same kind of thing. A HoloKR may very well blow NijiKR out of the water, but I still feel EN/JP fans will make up the bulk of their audience so the compartmentalisation becomes unnecessary.

Now that JP and EN exists and houses polyglots — the latter of which is not bound by location — they really do feel like the only branches that need to exist. I think what we will see is a much more cohesive Nijisanji moving forward.
