Your post reminded me of when I was in highschool (late 00s, yes I am an old, no bully pls). We were learning about the holocaust, and I asked my teacher why the Jews were targeted - because they never explained that shit. It was just ~and then the Germans rounded them up~. Anyway I'll never forget his reaction, it was like half panic and half threatening to send me to the principal's office if I asked again. It was so insanely weird.

Like we're taught that bad things are bad but without any context, and expected to just accept it. Just memorize it, don't ask questions, questions are bad.

I remember being taught or discussing that Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany's loss in WW1 because most of them wouldn't donate to the war fund. Specifically the wealthier Jews weren't interested and wouldn't donate. Then, because they were wealthy, they got to escape Germany first and the middle/working/lower class Jews were the ones that got rounded up.
