Then is comes to actually hiring police, you have many people who have a sense of duty and honor who wont take a job with the police of a city in the first place because they are doing bad things to political enemies. You have the more mercenary sort which while they would be a strict line tower, they wouldn't go out of their way to be complete asshats. However, many of that mercenary sort don't go into police work in the cities because the pay isn't really there in most cases (especially if they could get paid more doing anything else). Then you have a broad mix of the two above.

What does that leave you with? The people who want the powers of a cop (usually for abuse), and the people who see absolutely nothing wrong with the Mayors and DAs going after political and business enemies. Unsurprisingly, this two groups make up the majority of blue city cops.

Blue cities are enemy territory. The leadership, at best, wants to steal from you. At worst, they want you dead. The locals, want to steal from you *AND* see you dead. The legal terrain is fortified against you. And there is no real hope of changing that.

All that being said, I have had nothing but generally decent experiences with with my local rural red (right-wing) state County Sherif and Sherif Deputies. As it turns out, law enforcement is a product of its environment too.

So why is it that the Ottawa cops, despite the obviously high bugman population (as seen on Reddit and the character of the City Council), went so easy on the protesters? Why did they have to be swapped out for random assholes from around the country in order for the jackbooting to start in earnest? I could believe cowardice but these protesters wouldn't hurt a fly.

A lot of people view Telegram as a safe and private option because it's "encrypted". Really, there aren't many alternatives for privacy these days, and not a lot to choose from in that particular twitter/whatsapp format. Telegram has just enough of a critical mass of people using it, and they view it the way some people used to view whatsapp because it was "encrypted". As we all know here, encryption means fuck all when you have the app back-doored anyway. Maybe it's a honey pot, maybe not. Just don't go using it for illegal shit and you'll be ok. I think that is the attitude a lot of people take with it.

Obviously cops are not going to go doing illegal shit on it, but they feel safe for a bit of 'banter', the way those instagram ho's on tag the sponsor felt confident enough to negotiate a price for blowing an arabian sheik's camel (true story). That might actually be illegal come to think of it, but anyway, legal or not, you wouldn't want your mum to find out about it, or your next-door neighbor. Also, I note a lot of right-wing types have adopted it as their own and I've got a few invites to jump on there myself for private group chats.

Yeah, as I said, for want of a better or readily available alternative, it's been picked up by the righter leaning side of politispergs and that has given it a certain lead over other types of apps. A lot of people have it installed already. I have no idea though, really.

You can view it in a web browser though, so when you get a link you have to click on one of the buttons (forget now), and instead of it taking you to the Telegram app (and it not working coz you don't have it installed), you can view it pretty much ok in whatever browser you are using. Another tip is that sometimes it still doesn't render properly, so just refresh the page once or twice and it should show, at least it does for me.

I can see why people like it (just from me viewing it in a browser). It's a lot better formatted than twitter and easier to read. Simpler rendering and less to go wrong. I'm not sure how it scales up to mass-communication shit like twitter, but for smaller groups of around a dozen or so, it seems ideal. Twitter has been kludged to death by now from the original app it once was. Plus all that spying software and data harvesting that you know for a fact is there behind the scenes, well, a lot of that is just absent from Telegram.

It wouldn't surprise me if those Telegram screenshots from the pigs are real. Once you start using any app, you switch off whatever due diligence you once had about the thing, and get right down to the shitposting. Having said that...

I knew a lot of people would just end up saying it was 'banter' and that's a fair argument. But that particular kind of 'banter' is the epitome of 'optics'. It doesn't matter if they didn't mean it (and they probably did) - once it's out there in the wild, it's reaching those people who still have hearts and minds left that can be swayed. We'll find out soon enough if it's real, and if it is, a shitstorm of hilarity is going to ensue.

Even if nothing will happen to the cops from the log, it's been extremely entertaining finding someone on Twitter or Reddit bitching about the leak, then going on their profile and going back 5 or 6 days to see them celebrating and sometimes even sharing the donation leaks themselves, this whole thing has shown leftists nature to some of my normie buddies with how fast they needed to flip flop, first from the 2020 Summer Of Peace, than from the Minor Chimpout in Minneapolis in the middle of the protest, and now this.
