There are cops who never bent a knee to fentanyl floyd, just like there's cops that went out into the riots to contain them and make sure no civilian buildings burned down in a lot of states when they where told to stand down and let ANTIFA/BLM burn the city down.
There ARE good cops who have a soul and a moral compass, there's not a lot of them and there's no point in trying to protect them or excuse them because when shit hits the fan all the good cops are going to either be sabotaging the establishment (like leaking shit) or leave their badges at home and protesting peacefully like any other civilian.
Whoever is still serving the government when they become tyrants do not belong in a free country

They are both powermongers. One is connected by blood and nepotism, the other doesn't quite get the opportunity to exercise so much power. Who is more evil? The dumb, stupid animal ((c) Henry Kissinger) who goes off to kill or be killed, just for a measly paycheck, or the Masters of War ((c) Bob Dylan) who sign the official documents to say a war has actually started, and is quite happy to send out those dumb, stupid animals, unless they happen to be their kids, of course?
I forgot to make this point, but it's an important one. There are cops with empathy, there may even be cops with sympathy, but in many ways they represent the worst traits of humanity by going against what they know is the right thing to do, just so they can pick up their pension. There have been at least a couple of instances of both cops and soldiers standing up and protesting, at great personal cost to themselves. They are in the minority to a massive degree, it doesn't even need to be said. But they do exist. The whole pension thing is a massive carrot and a massive stick at the same time to any serving officer. It's meant to be, on purpose, else those officers of the law get funny ideas about freedom and rights. When push comes to shove, they will shoot if ordered (again, not talking in absolutes, but in general). I don't think anyone (at least on this website) really thinks otherwise.
Powermongers, in the form of politicians, presidents or police do not relinquish their power, they only do what they can to fortify it and consolidate it, by fair means or foul. The only reason they don't use foul means all the time is back to the old 'optics' thing again. If you really want to know the character of a man, watch how he acts when he thinks no one is looking. Yeah, there are bad bastards in the police and the military that will commit acts of murder and rape when they think they can get away with it. Who knew?
I would say the respect for the police is at an all time low, and with good reason as well. Having said that, most people don't know just how bad things can get when you have that type of power wielded over you. They've never been in a police riot and seen them murder people in front of you in real time as you watch and then try to help the wounded. I've experienced that. And what happened in Canada was a walk in the park. I've been inches from horses being ridden at full speed with nowhere to go but to climb over and fight through other people to make sure you aren't trampled and killed. But it wasn't on the news, so it didn't happen.
But never mind all that, in Canada they couldn't do that with the eyes of the world on them, but they edged it to get away with just enough to intimidate the protesters. Imagine if it was back in that not so distant age where not every person carried a mobile recording device. As for the acts they did carry out, they did not do them wholly of their own volition, they were ordered to do them. I ask again, who is worse, the henchman or mercenary who carries out these acts for money, or those that plan such things and give the orders? Morals are not relative, they are absolute.
But seeing as we are taking names and calling people out, what about the journalists who print the media that the average person reads/hears? I wasn't able to archive or even finish reading the articles in the BBC, so cleverly and so weasely-worded were they. Absolute brain washing bullshit. But oh so subtle and sophisticated. There is a kind of evil in that too. A knowing evil. And they perpetrate this mess we all find ourselves in more than anyone, as much as the mercenaries and masters of war; even more I would say.
We find ourselves up against a well oiled machine, centuries in the making, now finally coming to fruition and seeing its big chance; in fact now so close to its goal it can't help but accelerate it. It feels its time has come, and it fears that if this chance slips by, it won't just be failure they face, but a Romanian Dictator moment. It's everything to fight for, for that beast, but more than that, there is everything to lose, and that is what makes it so dangerous. That beast, and this time.
Many cops have made the wrong moral choice, but it must be noted (for whatever good it will do), that a few of them did the right thing when the time came. Those are men that can look themselves in the mirror, who can look their family in the eye, even if they did lose their jobs. The others? Well, they are the ones who will have to live with it, and will have to live knowing what those around them think of them, when it really comes down to it. Many of them will not care a jot, but some of them will, very much.
Man is determined to live in conflict in pursuit of his wildest dreams, it would seem. And in their failure they drag the rest of us down with them.

I don't know what it would take for things to get that bad (I think nothing short of a civil war would do it, where all bets for the near future are off the table) but I don't think the possibility is quite out of the question.
I agree that this is generally true, with one very important exception: when those giving the orders have lost all legitimacy in the eyes of the vast majority of their subordinates. In that case, those in charge would be stupid to give the order to shoot, lest they be the one staring down the barrel.
I don't know what it would take for things to get that bad (I think nothing short of a civil war would do it, where all bets for the near future are off the table) but I don't think the possibility is quite out of the question.
