It's not just a hyperfixation to uphold Chris as transfemale, this is the most internally consistent way to avoid slipping into the grievous transgender sin of gatekeeping (Troon's Law #5). The author is clearly autistic and not transgender, or otherwise felt that it was more important to him, since he decided that Chris was too evil to be a member of his secret club.

My favorite part about these freaks is when they force tranny-ness or faggotry onto characters, they almost always use some stereotype as a part of it. "Oh, this male character likes to knit? He must love to gargle cocks in his spare time!"
