The General Thread

I went to a Sonic Drive-In this morning to grab some breakfast burritos for my office. Only 8 of them. Shit took them 29 minutes to make, I was charged $46 and I had to go in and physically run my own credit card because the fat, visibly hungover 30-somethings working there kept saying they couldn't get the card machine to work and were asking me to go get cash at the bank next door to pay instead (Im sure they were planning to just pocket the cash).

My work gives out monthly emails that staff write thanking people anonymously for whatever, ie “thanks so and so for taking over this project” “thanks so and so for having a great attitude”

I literally get one that says “thanks P. Barnes for being a great scientist and a woman of color in management! We’re rooting for you!”

The mortification is so palpable I can feel it in my bones.

Woof imagine working your ass off for most of your life (I'm guessing thats how long it takes to become a scientist in management) only to have your hard work be trivialized in favor of two characteristics you got by forces of nature thanks current era you're doing a bang up job of making us all misanthropes. Well I thank you for solid posts and being a kiwi!

I have the worst time trying to read white text on a black background. It's almost impossible for me now, my vision gets really fucky for a few minutes after reading. Or I have to just abandon reading entirely if I can't change the format.

Yet, as long as it's not black or extremely close to being completely black, I seem to be just fine. White-on-anything, as long as it's not black.

It doesn't have to be white text, either. Any color against black I seem to have a problem with. It's just that white gives me a much harder time. However, the dark and edgy side of me loves a good dark red text on a black background..............

Right, I can't find a single part of the "thank you" that isn't insulting in some way. I mean, the person was obviously well meaning but still...think before you write.

I got into my first ever twitter slapfight today (not counting the confrontation about terfposting with my boyfriend in the DMs). Join me on this journey.

Today I came across a tweet about a Brazilian girl that got murdered and I was like ”wtf is up with Brazil and murder, it seems like a pretty cursed country” since I know they have the world’s highest rate of troon murder and murder = bad and now I have a bunch of angry Brazilian radfems in my replies calling me a gringa because I called their country cursed lmao

I tried to engage with one of them that straight up put words in my mouth and said that I thought Brazil was the only country in the entire world with a murder problem because I was a dumb xenophobe to clarify my position but she just mocked me for trying to defend myself. Presumably because she used her superior intellect to unmask my true nature as Evil White Person, I would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling shitposter! She called me a quote-unquote “thinly veiled xenophobic Eurocentric activist” like my twitter with 80 followers that mostly just retweets other people’s basic TERF talking points, memes and pictures of dolls is Malcom fucking X or something :story:.

I really don’t mind that much when people mock me on the internet since I mock other people on the internet and every action has an equal and opposite reaction but I can’t abide strawmen. Like if your directly mocking a tweet of mine and your argument stands you should at least be able to mock me based on what I’ve actually said. There are like 5 other angry people in my replies that I just didn’t bother engaging with at all since they just called me a dumb and/or xenophobic forigner then moved on and that’s just like, their opinion maaaan.

Part that made me lol the most was the part where she was like ”no surprise the dumb European doesn’t know the ~weight of her words~” like dude it’s a fucking tweet lmao - if 400 characters is all the “weight” she needs to seethe this much then that doesn’t bode well for her activism, like idk she doesn’t seem very resilient but then again she lives in Brazil and they have a lot of murder so I’ll give her credit where credit is due she’s probably more resilient than I realise. I don’t know this woman, she might be the Martina Luther King of Brazilian trans exclusionary radical feminism for all I know and if she is, I salute her, but I kinda doubt it lol

Anyway it was obvious after that that I wasn’t gonna get her to engage with me at all so I just told her I’m sorry for hurting her feelings and told her I hope she has a lovely day and she was like “I hope you go fuck yourself” so err, yeah. She seems nice. Remember that everyone and their dog seems to take twitter terfposting way too seriously and to not engage with wokescolds unless you’re actively trying to make them seethe for the lulz. Next time I’ll probably just meme until they chimp out.

That may be cringy but is probably well intentioned. It's just one of those "compliments" like "thank you for your service" that I think literally nobody wants to hear again.

When does CNN get its own lolcow thread? Here is how they describe a cold front. Happens several times, every year. An "involuntary polar plunge".

Storms are "bombs" of some sort or the other. Everything has to be extreme and intense.

Goddamn, it's going to be ten to twenty degrees Fahrenheit colder than average for about two days.

Conspiracy Theory: The moon is out of cheese. But the government didn't tell us that because they were secretly sending astronauts from NASA to the moon so they can steal the planet's cheese and use them to make cheese and crackers for the President. Other than one guy and his pet dog from Wigan, nobody other than NASA can gain access to the moon, as it is heavily guarded by coin-operated robots. Some people say that the cheese is Wensleydale. Some are saying it's Stilton. We may never know.

I miss the Wallace & Gromit branded Wensleydale with apricots, although other cheesemakers still make it. White Stilton with apricots is also good but I usually prefer that on its own or in Huntsman cheese, which is layered (blue) Stilton and Double Gloucester.

I don’t know why people want to be so concerned with everyone liking them and thinking they’re morally ok. I’ve been visiting bumfuck nowhere for a month and as much as I like the simple rural areas there are people who can barely operate a tv remote and if they lose twenty more brain cells they’d start eating their own shit. I’ll live my life on my own terms for fucks sake
