That said, the left image looks like a fat girl's face. You could feasibly see her waddling around an Aldi or a Walmart (depending on your Angloshperic location) looking at the discounts, not jumping around the woods shooting robodinosaurs in this year's Sony Exclusive Open-World Game Experience. Nobody is buying it, she just doesn't pass as an athlete in that screengrab.
Also, people want an attractive, appealing main character. Male or female, gay or straight, And that's ok. I guarantee that everyone in the world outside of that particular section of twitter dot com would prefer to play as an attractive lady or a fucking hulking dude given the option. Games are escapist, aspirational power fantasises. They can tell interesting stories and play on interesting political and philosophic themes as well, they are art after all, but they are about base enjoyment first and foremost. Look at Dues Ex for example - fascinating and sadly prophetic story that covers many themes that are still current today, but would it be anywhere near as good if you play as some schlub instead of hyper-augmented autistic meme-machine JC Denton? I doubt it.

The problem now IMO is certain developers seem to have done a 180 and intentionally want 'realistic' woman even though there's absolutely no reason to not just have different bodyshapes but in idealised or stylised ways like what they have in the Borderlands games.
