Personally, I like to think Jaffe died after the release of Twisted Metal 2012, that was the last time I can recall he did anything relevant as a game developer. Ghenry Perez did a Twisted Metal retrospective with him a couple of years ago and he sounded pretty level headed in them, I recommend it for those who are curious about his career and why its so sad to see him defending Cuties and bitching about Metroid nowadays.

Maybe I should give it a play.

I liked GoW 1&2, but tired very, very quickly of its Le Edge God-Killing Fedora motif. At some point, I wanted Kratos to do something other than chop a mythic figure into bits to get an item, and it didn't seem like Jaffe had any other ideas.

you also have to remember it rides the "rule of cool" hard and is mostly a product of the 00's, less about fedora tipping or "message". it's easy to look this way through the current year lens, same as 90's edginess which these days comes across rather cringy (but boy giving all the sanitized corporate product and "le ironic" shit released the last few years I miss the whole "no fucks given" attitude hard, I'm at a point actually looking forward to stranger of paradise, and that hasn't happened in a long while).

You still get a severed head in GOW 2018, but he tells you stories instead.

Stranger in Paradise looks to be a direct retelling of all the shit that happens in Final Fantasy 1, because more bosses other than Garland have supposedly been seen. Now if they were to continue on with it they would more than likely cover Final Fantasy 2 and 3. Because they honestly do not hold up. Once you start getting to the later ones I guess they would stop, because those are the ones people really give a shit about. Probably 4 and 5 would be the absolute last cutoff because 6,7,8,9,10 etc. are all way more popular.

They could maybe get away with 13 because of how much the games sucked

You definitely don't have to remind me what the 1990s were like. Cheeky, irreverent badassitude is needed in entertainment now more than ever. The current era of wokescolds reminds me of nothing so much as the cringey Christian rock and novels of my youth. It's the same basic sentiment---"We need to make sure everything kids consume is preaching the right values to them"---except somehow more toxic.

I got kind of tired of GoW at the time. I think by the end of the second game is where I started to notice that the theme was becoming, "and I'm killing all the gods because humanity doesn't need them any more." Anyway, I didn't realize David Jaffe had become a lolcow, or that Drawn to Death existed, until finding this thread a couple days ago. Seems like going woke ruins everyone and everything. I doubt he could make GoW today with his current politics.

Didn’t realize DJ had a thread here. Shame. I was a huge Twisted Metal fan and think about 2 and Black all of the time. I guess I should be thankful that this guy likes to ape out over everything, I bought Cruelty Squad because of this fag, and loved every minute of it. Definitely the best game I’ve played in 2021.

Damn right, Cruelty Squad kinda reminds me of something very strange, like playing PO'ed on PS1 mixed with a hint of Rainbow Six. I even re-upped that meme of Jaffe that CS had lol.
