I've had my manager once walk in before a shift, call me over, let me know my family called the office line because I don't keep my cell on me during work hours, close grandparent bought the farm, manager still expected me to start and close out the shift.

I tell you what, it was a shitty shift but I had 4 other guys expecting me to show up for that shift, get our shit done right, and make the necessary reports. Almost same thing happened to a diff lead, younger, uncle bit it, guy throws a fucking fit, derails months worth of work just to take idr how long bereavement, when all he had to do was close out the last two days of work (and they weren't even 3 hours worth of work in total).

Life sucks, shit sucks. But if you're gonna throw everything out the window everytime something bad happens, shit ain't gonna get done. And Calli's missed her chance for now to hop on the souls train just because she wasn't in the know. Weak sauce

Its not about being friends, its more about royally fucking up and there really isnt much you can do than just agree with what happened.
